Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (April 2024) on Wednesday April 10, 2024 @01:22PM (#39993307)
Is Ashby much better at the hiring workflow than Notion?
Re:Ask HN: Contractors, what is your hourly rate? on Saturday August 27, 2022 @07:24AM (#32617842)
I’m a Notion Consultant. I usually avoid hourly work but when I do some coaching/training sometimes. In that case, I charge between $300 and $1000 session (60 to 90 mins).

Ask HN: When building a company/team, do you focus on “knowledge management”?

Knowledge Management (KM) as an idea/principle feels important yet obscure and too "archaic/enterprise".I think it's important because good KM practices ensure that teammates/employees are able to autonomously and asynchronously capture, organize and share knowledge. So that they can do their job faster and more efficiently. On the other hand, the term "feels" so old and outdated that I don't...

I don't know much about the space but if you're just starting out, I'd pay attention to two interesting companies: 1. https://www.synthesis.com (productizing Elon Musk school) 2. https://primer.com (community for home schooled kids)
There's missing link between visual design tools (Figma etc.) and documentation tools (Notion etc.). Yes, you can embed Figma into Notion but that's where the interconnectedness ends.

I think it's very important for a smooth workflow.

I've been keeping tabs on two apps that are trying to merge a canvas/whiteboard and docs: 1. https://cloverapp.com/ 2. https://heptabase.com/

It's an interesting and relevant problem to solve.

That's a clever launch :)

Not a sponsored post. Just in love with the tool!

Ask HN: How do you use Notion?

I'm seeing people use it for hundreds of different things both for business and personal use cases. It's not good at everything but I find myself hacking and twisting instead of using multiple apps, so curious if this is a similar for y'all.

There's something wrong with how you set it up. I can't open the individual position on the public Notion page. Do those pages have restricted permissions?

Re:Ask HN: Successful one-person online businesses? on Monday December 14, 2020 @11:16PM (#25426943)
I run https://optemization.com.

Formally, its a "digital operations" agency but I'm experimenting with a newsletter, YouTube videos and selling Notion templates.

Made $55k in 8 months. Idk if that's successful but I'm having a blast.

Re:Notion Timeline View on Wednesday November 11, 2020 @10:53PM (#25066245)
it's a long awaited update for the Notion community. Beyond the timeline view, they introduced the ability to hide database properties in card view, so that doesn't obstruct content, which btw, adding content to a database record in a vertical UI is one of the best Notion features, so they made it so much nicer.

just like any new Notion features, there are bells and whistles so, i went ahead and carefully broke them down in today's blog post: https://optemization.com/timeline-view-notion

Re:Decision Journal in Notion on Tuesday November 03, 2020 @11:24PM (#24986431)
yeah, sometimes I feel that the FS template is an overkill that's why I delete prompts often. Maybe it's a good idea to create a "simple decision" template.
Re:Decision Journal in Notion on Tuesday November 03, 2020 @11:23PM (#24986429)
woah! makes me think, once Notion has reliable API and offline mode, we'll be building entire products there.
Re:Decision Journal in Notion on Tuesday November 03, 2020 @04:11PM (#24984024)
What: Two Notion database templates of decisions modeled after the Farnam Street Decision Journal.

Why: To help you and your team make better decisions.

How: Once you receive a link over email, open it and click "Duplicate" on the top right to copy this page to your Notion workspace. Use it.

Here's a blog post about this template was published on the Digital Opssessions newsletter. There's also a video breakdown: https://optemization.com/decision-journal-notion

why do you think the vc have not thought of that? also, why do this over like the shl micro angel?
