It looks like they've been around since 2010, which surprises me because GitHub was around for a year or two before that iirc. I still envy that username, though!
I always loved downloading them DRM-free. Because it felt like I had actually owned it instead of just reading it from some website that could snatch it back at any second. I know Library Genesis is still up and running fine, but this is a warning of things that could happen.
Re:Show HN: Chrome Extension for HN Avatars on Thursday June 16, 2022 @08:31AM (#31765273)
I'm curious, how hard would it be to make a Firefox extension out of this?
Re:Show HN: A poem inside HTTP response headers on Tuesday April 12, 2022 @10:42AM (#31003380)
Agreed. It really takes me back to the old days of the Internet, with fun little easter eggs like this!
Re:April Fools and Hacker News on Friday April 01, 2022 @08:38AM (#30877548)
Google is evil, today. They didn't even have to change their site.
Re:Wipeout (PSX and Windows Source) on Sunday March 27, 2022 @01:50PM (#30822313)
RIP, HN hug of death.
Yep. It's got all you could want from Firefox -- Mozilla free. (+more)
Re:Colors.lol (2020) on Saturday February 26, 2022 @09:57PM (#30484920)
This is awesome. I've been looking for color palette generating sites for a while, and this one is pretty good.
Saw another HN user's comment about automatic battle-bot features. Maaaybe it's not the best idea in this case!
I'm all for robots taking over the world, that is, if I get my tacos.
Re:Show HN: Create your own prediction market in two minutes on Friday February 11, 2022 @11:18PM (#30309908)
I think having a plain email signup/login would be best, especially since a lot of people are moving away from Google and going to alternatives.
Re:Nike.com's robots.txt on Friday February 11, 2022 @08:07AM (#30300965)
Plus the big ASCII art at the bottom of the file.
Re:An update on AirTag and unwanted tracking on Thursday February 10, 2022 @08:40PM (#30295686)
These Apple "updates" are just going to get crazier and crazier, aren't they?
Re:Show HN: 700% Growth ( Discussion) on Thursday February 10, 2022 @08:23AM (#30285618)
Sorry since this isn't related, but why was almost everyone's account in the comments created 5 hours ago... right when this post was made?
Re:Show HN: Create your own prediction market in two minutes on Thursday February 10, 2022 @08:16AM (#30285559)
One complaint is that it requires a Google account to sign up. It does make sense why this is a feature, but it's still kind of annoying.
Re:For some searches the whole screen on Google is now ads on Friday February 04, 2022 @06:13PM (#30214841)
I've noticed that this happens a lot more when SafeSearch is turned on, not sure why this happens though.
I was able to get through this thread, guess I haven't zombie'd out too much.
Re:Google rewrites many page titles on Wednesday February 02, 2022 @08:16AM (#30177050)
https://ghostarchive.org/archive/54mNm Archived this a few days ago since I knew they'd fix the typos quickly.
Re:Show HN: An Instagram Alternative on Tuesday February 01, 2022 @05:32PM (#30170491)
Also I should probably add (though I'm sure you got this covered), if you make a web client that supports direct messaging, make it work correctly! (unlike Instagram)
Re:Show HN: An Instagram Alternative on Sunday January 30, 2022 @05:50PM (#30142069)
Make a web client and I'm sold.
Re:Show HN: Encycla – like GitHub for knowledge on Friday January 28, 2022 @09:06PM (#30123053)
It's basically like Wikipedia but it uses Git. I made a couple articles to test out the editing and it's pretty good so far.
Re:Show HN: Encycla, Git-based collaborative encyclopedia on Thursday January 27, 2022 @09:52AM (#30101252)
Just created an account, time to share knowledge!
Cool, I found that HN is #49923
It's really annoying that all these new projects are using Telegram. Discord I can handle, but Telegram is a pain to setup. I'm not gonna plug my phone number into some botnet.
Re:A Minimum Viable Computer, or Linux for $15 on Wednesday January 26, 2022 @12:18PM (#30088374)
> neither WiFi nor BT I understand having WiFi, it'd be great for a small device like this. But why would we need Bluetooth? It only has 32MB of RAM so I doubt you could get any music running on it.
Re:A Minimum Viable Computer, or Linux for $15 on Wednesday January 26, 2022 @12:16PM (#30088331)
well yeah, but why would they want to block out the "orange website"?
I agree. It's still a really neat project though.
This is a great idea, I like that you can generate lists for DuckDuckGo as well. It'd be cool to also see lists for SearX, too. I see a lot of these list websites online but this one allows for more specific use cases rather than the "block everything" ones that I usually find.
Re:Ask HN: Gmail account security on Sunday January 23, 2022 @08:15PM (#30052490)
Kind of unrelated to the whole Google thing, but this Synth browser is a really cool idea. I'll read more into it when I get the chance!
