Carbon offsets is not the same as co2 removal.
Why does California not expropriate one of the houses and tear it down for easy public access?

I have yet to see an open source font that comes even close to a professional font like Helvetica.
Re:Stripe Terminal – Programmable point of sale on Monday September 17, 2018 @06:55PM (#18010832)
I believe Stripe's original plan when they applied to YC was to start a bank.
It needs a few things that I liked about GF:

1) If I click a different period in a chart, it should show me the different in price over that period as a %. I want to be able to see the chart for the last 6 months and be told what % the price changed.

2) It needs options chains.

Some small tweaks would also be nice:

1) The news line length is basically unreadable. 2) Font size is too small. Really hard to read the site.

But overall I like it.

> The project is unusual in that no government funding is involved, forcing the winner to finance the entire construction cost itself.

Don't think this is paid.

I have attended the meetings yes. We no nothing more than we did when this was first announced.
Because Sidewalk has avoided answering those questions. If you go to the meeting all they will say is that "we don't know" The meetings have been a giant waste of time.
Re:Why is Ember fading away? on Thursday April 12, 2018 @12:38PM (#16822597)
As far as I know it has never been required to wrap an NPM module in an add-on. I have used Ember since pre 1.0 and you could have just ember-browserify for the last 3-4 years to pull in an npm module.
Re:IBM Plex – A new typeface on Wednesday March 28, 2018 @05:39PM (#16702223)
It sure looks like it was designed by committee. It is one of the ugliest typefaces I have ever seen and, having studied typography, I have seen some really shitty ones. What were they thinking with the f and r? This is Times New Roman all over again.
The Port Lands have already been extensively studied and a lot of planning has gone into it. There is a pretty extensive report that is a pretty fun read/scan. This would be the plan that Google would have to integrate into.

It requires you to look at the phone to unlock. Close your eyes or look away and it won't unlock.

Not everybody has fingerprints. I may be the minority here, but I look forward to not having to enter my pin each time.

Wasn't removed, just tweaked. It shows a colored dot now instead of a background.

If you factor in health care costs, housing costs, maternity leave, etc. Canada is a better deal. Our political climate isn't as toxic either.

Load time of what? opening a file? It is instantaneous other than really large files.
> Facebook, alarmed by this data, commissioned a second study by Jay Parikh, its head of infrastructure, to investigate any potential issues. Parikh’s findings suggested that the code rejections were due to engineering rank, not gender. However, Facebook employees now speculate that Parikh’s findings mean female engineers might not be rising in the ranks as fast as male counterparts who joined the company at the same time, or perhaps that female engineers are leaving the company more often before being promoted.
I have actually been looking for something like this, but I am more concerned about mould. Would that show up in a test like this? Our washroom has mould growing which we keep fighting back with bleach, but I would love to know what kind it is and if it is dangerous. Could this work for such a use case?

The tests that I did find were bloody expensive (300$+) and had to be done one per room. Too much for us.

Also see Rice's partaking in justifying torture, holding people without charging them with a crime, and indefinite detention. And that is just the things that have come out. Any company willing to associate with such a person deserves to go under.
Re:Ask HN: Please stop making infinite scrolling websites on Tuesday April 21, 2015 @02:53PM (#9416152)
Just because people implement them poorly doesn't mean they are inherently bad. Scrolling is easier and more enjoyable than clicking. However, basic features like back/forward remembering your location is vital. And it is probably a good idea to provide some pagination tools even with infinite scrolling.

Discourse does a pretty good job of it. http://www.discourse.org/ or if you just want to try it http://discuss.emberjs.com/t/ember-cli-the-ramcat-way/7666/1...

Re:How to Center in CSS on Monday April 20, 2015 @09:06AM (#9407762)
That is why CSS Grids are coming: http://dev.w3.org/csswg/css-grid/
I would learn Ember. The documentation is really good and it has the same philosophy as Rails (convention over configuration). It is as close to Rails for JS as you are going to get. Ember-cli is also amazing.

For the backend I would stick with Rails. I see no benefit of moving to Node for a general application when you already know Rails.

Ember, Ember Data and Rails works incredibly well together.
