A large part of the voters are gullible idiots who don’t understand when they vote against their own interests. Add a personality cult in the mix and this explains the current situation we’re in.
Re:HackerTube: YouTube built from videos recommended by HN on Saturday October 31, 2026 @09:27PM (#50321924)
Youtube feeds work the other way around it appears. Content seeks you. Things promoters think you may click on haunt you. There are videos I see are there in the feed and I don't click on because I am not interested and they linger there, trying to dupe me to click on. Absolutely disgusting.
Re:Shiny Object Syndrome on Saturday October 31, 2026 @10:32AM (#50316555)
Like Magpie developers? It may be somewhat humorous but that’s what these analogies look like from the outside. People chasing new things or trends for its own sake is a thing.
Actors and characters do blend and influence one another. Maybe you have a problem with how the credit is being shared but try to think if the series (or a movie) would be the same if the actors were replaced. Yes, you’re right that credit goes to the whole team but the main protagonists do stand out.
That makes him more real IMO. All humans have flaws of character. That doesn’t mean flawed equls good, we like people who have less of them.
Re:Patrick Stewart has died on Thursday October 29, 2026 @04:11PM (#50295115)
:( Rip Patrick Steward. I grew up watching TNG and Captain Picard has imprinted in my memory.

How about not printing with the cartrige 3 quarters full but digitally empty?
Re:Hackers expose the identities of more than 40k DHS employees on Thursday October 29, 2026 @11:59AM (#50291167)
This gave me schadenfreude... Is it bad to feel schadenfreude?
Re:Hackers expose the identities of more than 40k DHS employees on Thursday October 29, 2026 @11:55AM (#50291094)
Trump will anyway throw them under the bus when he's done with them so it's a bit naive to expect their identities would be kept secret forever. And somehow they hoped those masks would do anything else beside terrorize Americans. As far as archival, yes that's a good idea. I'm sure the current admin will attempt to shred everything..
Re:Get Ready for Touch on Mac on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @09:15PM (#50283261)
Hope they add the option to turn it off.
Re:Amazon Is Gutting Its AI Division After Sustained Failure on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @07:02PM (#50267115)
I know it sounds crazy but for the amout of investments AI has underdelivered.
He shall know himself
Likewise here. If I accidentally become a billionare I’d donate most of it to good causes after making sure family and close friends will be able to reach their own goals without becoming filthy rich. Creating a dinasty of wealth is cursing your own family.
Many hobbies do that for you. It’s important to engage with something that you like and use your brain. Also, part of the equation is to keep on moving. If you take daily walks and engage in a desk bound hobby it’ll likely provide similar benefits discussed here.
Re:Dutch government had hacked into Jared Kushner's phone on Saturday October 24, 2026 @12:01AM (#50218258)
One dupe, one flagged. Someone is exercising some damage control.
Re:The foolishness of "natural language programming" (1978) on Friday October 23, 2026 @06:13PM (#50216087)
Yeah, just because higher level programming languages (PLs) emerged doesn't mean lower-level PLs or assembly disappeared. Programming with LLMs in natural language is somewhat like programming in a higher level PL that gets translated into lower level PL, all the way down to assembly.

When it comes to precision it's easier to express instructions in formal languages and I don't see that changing anytime soon unless natural language itself changes drastically, which I highly doubt. Formal syntax, well-defined semantics, reproducibility and composability are traits that make traditional programming languages more reliable and precise than natural language for programming.

I think the voters, at least some part the voters, would be more reluctant to engage online due to this type of leak. Other than that, they'd continue with their convictions as before.
What if they get prosecuted after Tramp is out of office?

Re:Facebook now charging to post more than 2 links a month on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @12:56PM (#50169292)
If a business relies solely on FB it doesn’t exist for me. If they maintain multiple places online it’ll be interesting how this payment will play out…
Yeah, some additional friction. For the curious but not for the masses..
