It would be good if they can go into the demo and then sign up afterwards and keep the site they created in the demo.

Also, it would be great to see a list of add-ons

Re:Ask HN: Are you exposing users real names with FB Connect? on Friday October 15, 2010 @11:13AM (#1794796)
We've looked into it, it's something our project plan. We've got to use accounting to do it, so users can register using their fb accounts and that gets tied together, from then on all users have an alias which is what is displayed as default. But our plan is that once the alias is displayed we do the second request to see if the viewing user is a friend, if they are we update the name... does this make sense?

1) Link account to fb 2) Always assign and display alias 3)Check if viewer is a friend a)if friend update alias to show real name b) is not a friend, don't update!

Good luck working with the facebook api! :P

Re: What can I do better? No one is using the site. on Monday October 11, 2010 @11:37AM (#1780013)
1. How do they share with each other without going off to Facebook? 2. It might help if you bring the search to the landing page and have it on ever page 3. Is there a way for me (personally) to get in contact with you?
Re:Review a new website, student freelance marketplace on Friday October 08, 2010 @04:58AM (#1771050)
This is quite bright! I'm not sure what the pricing page is all about, despite its title. It seems a little hazy who pays who, how much and when
Re:Ask HN: Why are people so unkind (on the Internet)? on Friday October 01, 2010 @06:39AM (#1746611)
Perceived anonymity lets people behave without fear of social judgement, like bdr says no consequences.

It's like how when people can't see the immediate dangers of excessive drinking, speeding etc they go and do it because it's fun.

That and there's a lot of ignorant bigots with low self-esteem

I would suggest to them that if they believed in God and his wisdom then the reason I and them were left alive was because God decided that the earth needed to be cleaned and re-populated, like with Noah. And as a believer it is their duty to re-populate the planet they have been blessed with. God has seen fit to select me to survive and father his children through them, so no matter what happens letting me smash the crap out of them is the best thing to do

Dealing with link spammers?

I've been working on a project to allow website viewers to talk to each other in real-time based around any particular link .eg. people could be on HN and talk to each other live. The problem i've noticied is that every now and then we go through a phase of being hammered by spammers who just stream out link after link.Has anyone experienced this and come up with useable solutions to stop this...

I'd have the information in about us displayed as standard and perhaps mention your stance on user data privacy - do you re-sell email addresses, - can other group members see the email addresses etc - what happens if a group member wants out of the list

What sort of start ups? Production, reviews, discovery, communities? etc
Re:Ask HN: Rate my small budgeting web app on Friday August 27, 2010 @09:33AM (#1638754)
It's hard to read

Also I don't want to have to sign up to get some benefit out of it.

Maybe have an open access version that doesn't save state and has a budge limit like $20, just so people can quickly get a feel for what it does. That could be complemented by the video

Doing > viewing
