Multiple sources say speeding is the main cause. One source disagrees: drivers who love speed :D
Re:A speed camera app for phones might save lives on Monday November 06, 2023 @09:09AM (#38162759)
It’s not a solution even slightly close to the proper ones you mentioned for sure. It might just give visibility to the problem and prove how common ignoring speed limits is. It’s a stretch but if drivers feel anyone with a phone can see they are irresponsible drivers might change their behavior.

A speed camera app for phones might save lives

Don’t you agree? Lots of cars are overspeeding and we can’t tell because our eyes are so bad at detecting speed. If anyone can measure the speed of cars maybe it increases awareness and people would start asking government for better laws?I wish I knew how to port this to android/ios:https://github.com/pageauc/speed-camera

Re:Ask HN: How many devs work on product X on Thursday November 04, 2021 @02:21AM (#29104045)
Thanks. For Trello as an example, I can see 95 employees on Linkedin. I couldn't find any breakdown by role, but anyesy that number is somewhat helpful. Max 95 developers then

Good pointer, I got a friend working at a vc maybe he knows something.
I’ve been thinking about this for a couple of years now. I kind of hoped someone on HQ can shed some light on it :(
Yes, it’s possible to use Bing. But I don’t like the results. That’s why I’m trying to find out how startpage uses Google.

Ask HN: Is it possible to use Google search results like startpage.com does?

I’d like to make a website like startpage.com. In their FAQ they say they have some agreement with Google.Does anyone know how I can get a similar agreement?Gooogle Custom Search has some limits, like 10K calls per day if the whole internet is searched. So that’s not the answer. My goal? Build something like Ecosia.org but using Google.

Ask HN: A separate team for fixing bugs?

Imagine a team of software developers that its main responsiblity is fixing bugs. Whereas other teams who develope features and shape the architecture.Would it make sense to have such a team? Have you ever seen such a team anywhere?

Indeed it is hard.

But maybe by relative comparison we could rank them somehow?

For example, some supply chain management software that reduces food spoilage at super markets, might be better for the environment than one that just increases online sales?

No it's a normal cellphone number

I'll always setup an authenticator app and put SMS just as a backup

I spent three days on emailing and calling Amazon UK, to be able to get into my account.I have 2 phone numbers registered in the account, and none of them recieved the text messages that had the security code!Amazon support was funny, it took me sometime to see clearly that they are just sending me different message templates. It was a loop:1. I sent them an email. 2. They asked me to call. 3....

Ask HN: Is this game work safe? Do you know its origin?

I knew this game from years ago, we played it at a company event recently and everyone had tons of fun. I published the game under creative commons. However I'm worried if this could be taken as offensive, or just not suitable for work events.https://www.thegameofholes.com/Am I worrying for no reason? Also if you know anything from its origins please let me know.
