Sure, this can be true also. There are a lot of factors that go into what makes a car fun.
Easy, you don't connect the control systems to the monitoring systems.
Because then you can monitor it, and then call someone at the store to change the settings. Or go into the store to fix the one that isn't doing what's expected. You can still get alerts, diagnostics and data.

I mean, what happens when a compressor or other physical part goes out? You can't fix that remotely anyways. You might still want remote monitoring for that kind of situation.

Oh no! It might take more than a minute to connect to my brain rot!

There was no evidence about all the spying until 200,000,000 LG displays were sold.
Re:Ask HN: Which TV do you recommend for privacy? on Sunday November 01, 2026 @07:46PM (#50331634)
Don't give LG your money. Jesus people stop it.

All the TV manufacturers have to do is make a deal with Xfinity to jump on their AP, and you're toast. I don't know why anybody would defend them or give them any bit of slack on this. Once they figure this out, they will do it.
Re:When electric cars were for women on Sunday November 01, 2026 @12:44AM (#50322779)
What I find fascinating is people who have never driven a fun car, then get an EV that has some decent acceleration. Then they talk about how fun the car is to drive and say how its the best thing ever. I see these posts all the time, and I just think... Yep, now you get what car enthusiasts have been enjoying all this time. If you just drive Rav4s and other appliances, no wonder you hate driving.
Re:When electric cars were for women on Sunday November 01, 2026 @12:36AM (#50322747)
You can have fun without driving dangerously. You don't have to drive near the limits or even that fast if you have a good car.
Re:When electric cars were for women on Sunday November 01, 2026 @12:33AM (#50322729)
Yeah? What EV are you comparing it to?
Re:US tech stocks see sharp falls over AI cost fears on Friday October 30, 2026 @04:18PM (#50309579)
All the money is in Shorts now. Lots of channels saying how much money they are making from them, and not their "long form" 15-30 minute videos.

They're trying too hard to make the OS usable by people who have no idea how to use computers (I'm not just talking Apple and iOS). I get that tech should be accessible, but we need to start teaching people the basics of computers at the same time. I thought by now that everybody would have some level of understanding of how things work, but instead it feels like people are getting worse at computers. With how much more ingrained it is becoming in society, it's more critical now than ever that everybody has basic competency.

People sit at office jobs all day on a computer, and still don't get what a file is. And when they run into minor issues, they just throw up their hands and say "well I'm bad at computers." You literally work on one all day long, how is this excuse still possible in 2026?

I'm not expecting everybody to become IT experts or anything. But you should know what a file is. Understand what a network is and that 2 computers on the same network can talk to eachother, understand that a TV is just a computer that plays video files. I get why older people might struggle a bit more with these simplified interfaces, but people who grow up with them, who are given a goddamn iPad at 5 years old, they should have some basic idea by now.

Doesn't anybody remember MySpace? Everybody who had a page suddenly learned HTML and CSS. And the only benefit was having a cool MySpace Page? It just shows me that people are capable when given the tools. All we do is take away those tools "because complicated" and we treat people like dumbasses. People are smart and will figure shit out. These dialogs and things like them make computers harder to use for people who understand them, and don't educate the people who need to learn.

Gilgamesh. On the ocean.

Season 3 was way better.

That was what Starfleet was about. People in it were the best of the best. Expectations were high. Academy training was intense.

Star Trek? Fiction? You don't say!
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @02:35PM (#50278759)
Something wrong with your computer. My 11 year old XPS13 with touch screen has worked fine in Linux ever since I got it. And same with my Surface Pro 2 running Ubuntu.
I am offended by the connotations of "BBC," it makes me feel inadequate. Please change your lingo.
Wow if you have blind panic because of a crack in your phone screen, you might have other problems. I can understand being pissed, but holy shit, you just bought it, they'll replace it. It'll be okay. Get your old phone... oh right you just traded it in and rolled it into your new payment plan. The fact that this is normalized in the article says something about our society.
Re:The new iPad mini on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @01:00AM (#50254867)
I didn't know how bad TV looked in the 90s. We watched a low res 19 inch TV from across the room. Did moving to HD make any real difference in our lives? Do we really enjoy TV that much more? Once the excitement wears off about 20 minutes into watching it, its still the same thing. If the story is good, you get into it either way and forget what you're watching it on.
Re:OLED iPad Mini on Monday October 26, 2026 @04:17PM (#50250297)
The older iMacs that were the same thickness all the way across, they still looked good. Except they were some of the best machines to service. Literally two screws in the bottom, the whole thing split in half, and your hard drive, memory and other components were right there. I worked on tons of them and they were fantastic. It saved people money in the long run when they needed an upgrade because it took less time. Even replacing the screen or logic board in them was a piece of cake.
Yeah except the PT cruiser is actually a good practical design, with a low floor entry height, and comfortable upright seating and pretty good cargo capacity and decent fuel economy. Its certainly more useful than today's crossovers. And was a sales success. They sold tons of them. The thing is, they thought it would appeal to young buyers, but it was mostly older people who flocked to them in droves. The PT Cruiser community also was massive, and their owners loved them. They were also mechanically simple and cheap to repair, being built on the Neon platform. It was a well thought out vehicle, and not just a gimmick. Even if you don't like the retro styling. I give Chrysler props for it.
Except this is an SUV with a sloped roof that loses tons of potential capacity. That said, I have seen toppers on Cybertrucks so if you need the enclosed capacity, you can get it like a regular trick. But the truth is, the Cybertruck and Rivian are not trucks first. They are lifestyle vehicles that can do some truck things.

I don't think they do. They've been taught to use Apps because all of the web-versions of popular things have been crippled and broken.
