Thank you for writing this. I've come to exactly the same conclusion after a decade of building and delivering complex tangible applications which others have to maintain after I'm gone.

I switched because `</>` breaks syntax highlighting on Github for `.jsx` files.

And since most people will be inspecting the code on Github, I thought it was worth switching.

I wanted to get better at writing hooks and working with hooks. Learning was one of the reasons for creating this in the first place.
Creator of "Jira Clone" here.

First of all I want to make it clear that this is just a showcase/demo product. It's definitely not something I'm planning to sell.

Additionally, it's not even remotely production ready, and it's missing about a zillion features that would make it a full-fledged project management software.

The main reason I built this was to have a good showcase for potential future clients.

The second reason was to share with the community. More specifically to show how to organize non-trivial React projects and to provide folks with a bunch of React code to learn from.

The third reason was to improve my skills and get better at working with hooks, TypeScript, and a couple of other things.

Back when I was learning React (4 years ago) I was a bit frustrated by the lack of non-trivial example projects. It was either a bunch of to-do lists, or hugely complex codebases like https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso.

I like to think that this Jira Clone presents a nice middle ground.

Bonus: Here's a Trello clone I built while learning React four years ago: https://boxd.ivorreic.com/ :)

In the past several years I haven't seen a non-trivial app built without some kind of a build system, but I'm sure there are folks who don't use them.

Why are you asking? Learning how to use webpack (for example) can be difficult depending on your background, but once you set everything up it's pretty solid. Plus you could use boilerplates like create-react-app if you're not willing to invest too much time into figuring it out.

For how long have you been doing web development?

For a novice it's common to feel a bit frustrated and lost. You however are simply bored by it, so I don't think that matters in this case.

Is there anything else (realistic) you'd prefer to be doing? Can you imagine yourself in some other position? Does it invoke happiness?

The main issue, I think, is the fact that I was already fairly successful when I decided to move. I was working remotely and it didn't really matter where I lived. If I moved a couple of years prior the story might have been different: I'd have something to chase.
> I hate doing a healthy thing. I don't want to do it. But when I do, I feel momentously better afterwards.

Ah yes, that's familiar.
