I was thinking along these lines a couple of weeks ago[0] - specifically whether we could treat weight manipulation as a sort of programming/compilation task. I expected it to require a lot more training with synthetic datasets. It's surprising that existing models are already somewhat decent at it.

They really don't care about developers it seems. I've literally been trying to give them money for an Apple Developer membership for over a month. Ten support emails later, I'm still stuck. I'm starting to think the only way is to buy an existing iOS development company.
Doesn't even upvote itself... Amateurish.

It's not tied to the dollar and yes, the purpose is to have a neutral currency.
As a crypto veteran, I sometimes forget that a 25% swing is newsworthy.
No one ever said USDT was decentralized.
I lost ~20,000 USDT by accident once and the CTO just sent me some freshly printed ones. That was many years ago though.

Why no subs? 100$/mo is enough for a lot of Opus 5.5 on high... I had a very hard time maxing out my own usage. I had to switch to OpenAI this morning due to getting my account disabled (probably due to VPN usage/traveling) and it really feels like a downgrade.
The more frontier models progress, the less concerned I am about this. Their growing capabilities don't seem to come with a corresponding drive for self-preservation or power. Ego evolved alongside intelligence in nature because of natural selection, but it doesn't appear to be an inevitable emergent property of intelligence.
Of course, there's still the "paperclip optimizer" problem. But models seem to pick up some common sense from the vast amounts of human-generated text they're trained on. In my own usage, they rarely pursue a literal interpretation of an objective at the expense of everything else. They even sometimes push back on my requests when they think I've overlooked some ramification (often rightly so).
If an AI doom scenario does happen, it seems more likely to result from deliberate misuse or gross negligence than from anything inevitable about intelligence.
I'd still buy MacBook Airs even if they cost more than the Pros. The lighter weight and the silence of having no fan are worth more to me than the extra performance.
Bastiat's "seen and unseen". You see the cheap-looking AI graphics. You don't see the extra rooms they could afford to build, the ticket that might be $5 cheaper, or the new haunted house in your area that only exists because a small operator can now open one without hiring a studio.
I would unironically invest.
Both Apple Pay and PayPal are disabled with a message saying: "Items in your order are not eligible for this payment method. Please select another form of payment." :(
Appreciate the sympathies, it sucks. I can only guess that I'm triggering some fraud detection system.
Thanks for the detailed write up. I did get the email saying my enrollment was accepted and I did accept the "Apple Developer Program License Agreement":
> Your enrollment request has been accepted. To complete your organization's enrollment in the Apple Developer Program, please sign in to your developer account to review and accept the Apple Developer Program License Agreement, and complete your membership purchase.
It's really only an issue when it's time to pay for the membership. I'm probably tripping some fraud detection system tied to Apple Store rather than Apple Developer. I'm traveling right now and don't have an iPhone with me but I'll try your suggestions when I get back after tomorrow.
PS: I'm getting a 404 on the telegra.ph link you shared.
The thing is I always pass the enrollment step, it's paying for the membership that blocks for some reason. I think it might be the Apple Store's fraud system that flags me for some reason, rather than an issue with Apple Developer itself. Regardless, thanks for the advice.

I've been trying to enroll for Apple Developer for over a month and nothing works. The Apple Developer app won't accept my Canadian passport for identity verification. The enrollment is for a Delaware LLC, so my Apple account region is set to US. I can't switch the account region to Canada either, because I haven't lived there in years and don't have a Canadian bank card.If I enroll through the...
Count me in the second camp. I've been writing software for 20+ years, and I recently built a low-cost Google Voice alternative because every business VoIP option I looked at was either overpriced or missing something I wanted. Without AI, that's a project I probably would never have started. With AI, I built it solo in under a month. I even have some paying customers now, though that wasn't the primary goal. So far, the hardest part seems to be opening an Apple Developer account...
Nope, the leak didn't show that.
The unit economics aren't what's subsidized. Inference is profitable.
Sure, I was just pointing out why the stat is misleading. People unfamiliar with the study or the term would assume it refers to employers outright withholding agreed-upon pay.
If you only counted cases that meet the legal definition of the crime of "wage theft," the figure would much lower.
