More practically, people who work at AI startups are starting to realize that money and power can't fix everything and they are being met with hostility.
I have met several people working at frontier labs who legitimately feel that what they are doing is making the world a worse place and that a disgusting amount of money is not enough to assuage their apprehensions. They cannot even look people in the eye and tell them what they do. Maybe shame is good op-sec.
You've all managed to successfully alienate the entire creative class.
In any case, C-suite has realized that the regulatory regime depends on public consumer sentiment. The current range of products do not pacify the masses. There is a real, visceral feeling that these tools are polluting the world around us with low-quality media with malicious purposes by a growing cadre of vying interests.

10+ years in AI and robotics in Los Angeles, California. Currently based in New York City. Strong focus on formal methods, system reliability, and LLM-based systems. I optimize for correctness, reproducibility, and measurable performance under constraint. I work well in environments where rigor and proof-of-behavior matter more than narrative.

The brackets are unicode, honestly it's just `'@'` and `'.'`
Give me weird.
What is helping is that this is training my ear and tongue, it's becoming more comfortable to transition between grammars and pronunciations.

languages: Please write to me in any language from anywhere!! And please send math papers!! I'm trying to learn as many languages as I can right now. My current focus is French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, German – then Chinese, Russian, Hindi, Korean, Arabic, and Haitian Creole. I'm going to focus op top-30 most spoken-by-people, then top 30 most spoken-by-countries, then a survey of languages without any incentive (Navajo, Irish, Greek, Hawaiian, Latin, Sanskrit, in general, Classical Languages, Medieval Languages, Modern Languages). I started this journey in August 2023 knowing only N1 Japanese.
link to something you think is cool: https://www.jstor.org/stable/3027072 I would so love to do whole Erdős wanderer thing and focus on publishing papers in different countries with different people in different languages. I like the whole peripatetic element of thinking and living and working and dreaming.
link to something that does not exist: I am building a 'tiny' LLM that is taking a novel approach to language translation. It is incredibly nice to continue this research because I have begun to actually understand more people now and I feel less lonely. It is getting better, but I am absolutely not in any hurry to capitalize on it. I can send you samples of its output by hand in parallel to my own manual translation.

I am a mathematician. My career is working as a machine learning researcher and data scientist. I specialize in developing operations infrastructure for data pipelines and model deployment. To this end, I concern myself with web standards, accessible design and lifecycle management of a product from prototype to production. This involves a fair amount of working across departments and extensive documentation.
I am looking for an ambitious opportunity, particularly greenfield projects.
The most important thing to know about me:
I am told that I'm pleasant to work with. I genuinely enjoy doing what I do, with a sense of calm and professional acumen. Generally, HackerNews has been courteous towards me and I try to be receptive to that courtesy.

I vaguely recall seeing a website somewhere called "these are the same vibe" or something that compiled images of a similar aesthetic using gpt-3 or something?I want to pursue more research in that direction but lost the url.Basically you upload or select an image and it would give you tumblr-style a gallery of similar or related items.
