Re:Download Entire Wikipedia for Offline Use With an HTML5 App on Friday December 30, 2011 @06:48PM (#3409585)
Nice job, this looks really useful - would certainly help for the times when I'm stuck with no internet access and need to look something up.

One minor niggle - when I changed the file I wanted to use in settings, there was no confirmation or notification to let me know it was downloading the new file. I ended up stopping the download, erasing the data and starting again, to be sure. It might be worth adding in a confirmation to let users know it was changed OK, and is being re-downloaded.

Re:Chrome Remote Desktop extension by Google on Saturday October 08, 2011 @07:44AM (#3087709)
I can access the Web Store fine with my apps account. The apps account administrator needs to enable it in the Apps control panel. IIRC it's in "Organisation and Users" --> "Services".

The only thing not in there (that I've found) is Google+/Profiles.

Re:How to Beat Procrastination on Sunday February 06, 2011 @07:11AM (#2185474)
I often find the hardest part is actually starting whatever it is you're putting off. After that, it's a lot easier to keep going (provided you don't get distracted by interruptions).

My solution is to turn off all my IM clients, load up a different browser without all the tabs I normally open, mute everything except the radio, and force myself to start it. After that, I can usually work through and get it finished.

Re:PS3 Root Key Hacker Sued on Wednesday January 12, 2011 @03:23AM (#2095436)
If I'm right though, that's only a proposed restraining order? Or do I have the wrong end of the stick?
Re:Cool HTML5 Canvas Applications on Sunday November 28, 2010 @10:17AM (#1947461)
Apps like Lucid Chart and Sketchpad are where I think HTML5 will be most useful. Flash is still (and likely will be) popular for games for a long time, but it doesn't work too well for the 'productive' apps, which is where I see HTML5 stepping in.
Re:Try node.js in the browser on Sunday November 28, 2010 @09:57AM (#1947425)
This looks great, gives me a good excuse to start experimenting with node.js
Re:Domain Name Seizures Potentially An Elaborate Hoax on Sunday November 28, 2010 @05:30AM (#1947114)
I think they seized some domains, but not necessarily the ones this article is talking about. If this is a hoax, it works particularly well, as ICE does't seem to have confirmed which domains it has seized.
Re:Teaching My Daughter To Code on Sunday November 28, 2010 @05:26AM (#1947111)
My first (real) programming experience was with PHP when I was 14. Before that, I fiddled around with a bit of flash and ActionScript. I found it so much easier to learn by actually having a project and working out how to make it a reality as opposed to just reading about it in a book.
Re:High Court ruling implies headlines are copyright on Saturday November 27, 2010 @12:15PM (#1945321)
This can only end badly.
Re:Google Code Project Hosting relaxes license policy on Saturday September 11, 2010 @07:51AM (#1681403)
I've had a project under the AGPL for a while now, and it always annoyed me that Google Code wouldn't support the license.

It's good to see them stepping forward to allow the use of these newer licenses on the site.

Re:Ask HN: What does "the Cloud" mean to you? on Sunday September 05, 2010 @03:49PM (#1665037)
I don't think of the cloud as just a server elsewhere on the internet, but more of a group of servers, like EC2, or Windows Azure, where the data is shared between them, and backed up in various places.

I have heard many people refer to the internet in general as 'the cloud', which I can understand, but I don't think of that as it's primary definition.

Re:Swarmation: like musical chairs for pixels on Sunday August 29, 2010 @08:40PM (#1645008)
I love how I have no idea what is going on or what to do, yet it still keeps telling me I win.
Re:Basic Command-Line Data Processing in Linux on Sunday August 29, 2010 @08:33PM (#1645000)
I've been using Linux for a while now, and I never thought about how powerful those simple commands can be.
Re:Obesity: Drink till you drop on Sunday August 29, 2010 @02:04PM (#1644195)
Agreed. Most of the time, we don't eat until we feel full, we eat until we finish what we've got.

I can see the benefit to those who like to snack because they're hungry during the day - regularly drinking water will help ward off the hunger until meal time. In the end, though, it all boils down to common sense: the less you eat, the less weight you put on.

Personally, I don't mind when sites complain about my browser, as long as there is still an element of choice. Not all HTML5/CSS3 features are there in stable versions of a lot of browsers, so if your site were to use a feature only available in the latest stable version of Chrome, for example, and not Firefox, then I would consider that to be too restrictive.

However from the sounds of it, your application should work in the latest stable version of the major web browsers, which, in my opinion, is enough.

Re: Tethering on Sunday August 29, 2010 @11:30AM (#1643927)
One of the problems in the UK is that it's hard to find an unlimited internet plan. Nearly all the networks place a 500MB limit, which is very easy to go over if you use tethering apps. It can end up costing an absolute fortune.
