Where did the water for the ice come from? What is the optimal sea level for the governments to set? How do you calculate an energy output without knowing it's environment? Why do scientist, who are dependent on government funding, use words like 'suggest', 'surprised', or 'consensus'?

The truth is that none of us know what the actual dimensions of our solar system were 5,000 years ago, nor do we know the measurements in the next 1,000.

An object is never the same when nature is applied over time.

Re:N.S.A. Contractor Arrested in Possible New Theft of Secrets on Thursday October 06, 2016 @02:28AM (#12650617)
After reading this article a second time, I noticed that it's crafted to suggest the suspect had stolen software. The evidence given in the article only admits the suspect had documents, some of them classified, at his home. To suggest that many computers and code was found at a programmers home is quite ridiculous. Late in the article, the F.B.I "suspects" that he may have stolen code. What this article lacks in evidence, it makes up in sensationalism.
Re:Why Are Politicians So Obsessed with Manufacturing? on Thursday October 06, 2016 @01:31AM (#12650430)
Manufacturing jobs and service sector jobs are not mutually exclusive. Historical trends do not represent an evolving sophisticated economical stragety, but document economical needs met. The author suggests manufacturing jobs are irrelevant, but all jobs are relevant and necessary.

Your theory suggests all people are equivalent, but learn by happenstance. To further your theory, would people in a set of skills have random attributes? It would be interesting to see if all chess grandmasters share any common traits, or not.

When I include 'I may be wrong' in a comment, I'm not trusting my memory.

This is an interesting video examining a botnet.

To me, the disturbing thing is the FBI took over the Tor node, moved the content to a FBI server, and ran it for two weeks.

I'm an American and I am not a minority, but I have been profiled and stopped many times over the years. Each time I'm ask if I have anything in the vehicle, and do I mind if they search. It seems one or two younger white guys driving commercial vehicles are more apt to transport contraband. I don't know how effective this is, but it does happen often.

Seems I remember a previous article estimating 1.5 million Tor exit nodes, but I may be wrong. And in another article from memory, active ip address estimates were in the 100's of billions maybe. My bet is most illicit activity from a perpetrator would go through Tor, but I wonder how many of the police raids are due to people being 'swatted'?

How does having absolute certainty about the factual accuracy of a tip equate to discriminating law enforcement?

Re:How We Got Here: DNA Points to a Single Migration From Africa on Thursday September 22, 2016 @02:28AM (#12554865)
Genesis chapter 2 says God formed Man from the dust of the ground. It also says "And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every fowl of the air and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them."

I find this fascinating that apparently all life has the ground in common. Science says no creator, but after a Big Bang, life evolved from sludge with Darwinism from thereon.

Doesn't the two kind of compare?

He's not donating money to a worthy cause. He's investing money in immigrants, and betting against the host nation's currency. It's how he's made his fortune.

Probably not until you get back.
So, how did this ship attempt to sail this route 168 years ago if there was no energy extraction industry?
To spend a year in such tight spaces is quite an accomplishment. I wonder what could have been accomplished if the mission included a goal of remote material manufacturing. It might answer can we survive together and can we thrive together while doing so. Plus, I'd love to see what material could be made using Unmanned Ground Vehicles.

Yes. If a modest amount of 9k would work, then giving everyone a million each would work as well. The Keynesian economist in Washington and Tokyo have already filled up the bathtub to no avail. This is the difference between money and currency.

I don't even qualify as a novice, but it seems f(the first iteration) would need start with 0.

With this sequence of numbers 1,1,2,3,5,8 it seems to be calculating

f=0 as 2 * 0+1=1 ; f=1 as 2 * 1+1=3 ; f=2 as 2 * 2+1=5 ; f=3 as 2 * 3+2=8 ;

then f=4 should be 2*5+3=13

I'm not sure how 2 is calculated unless i=0, but this is why I'm not even a novice.

Your argument is corrupt. It doesn't take science to recognize morality. Each and every child in a porn video is someone's son or daughter. Each and every child has value. Society chooses to make and enforce laws which dissuade deviant behavior. Erode the moral foundation of a society is to watch it crumble.

Excellent point. I wonder if those who equate Blackwater with "mercenary sector" would also equate U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command with "mercenary sector" as well?

Comparing a 4-year college and a technical school is heavy-handed. Neither share demographics, nor business model. As one of 'We the People', it is also disturbing to read 'stealing money from the federal government'.
