Re:Herdr has released native app on Friday October 30, 2026 @03:42AM (#50300858)
News to me, I guess. I have never seen anything like these demos. Most themes in software I use change colors or rearrange existing UI elements rather than create kanban boards and floating interactive cows where they did not exist before.
Re:Herdr has released native app on Friday October 30, 2026 @01:47AM (#50300271)
I have never used an application where I can type in anything close to "make this look like Windows 98" and it just works.
Re:Herdr has released native app on Friday October 30, 2026 @01:33AM (#50300195)
The Herdr website [1] has one of the best demos I have seen, one that I think would blow away those who aren’t nearly as AI-brained as I am. Why are we locked into old, boring UIs when I can just ask the agent for something like cows in a pasture or Windows 98?

Re:Hello Toronto – Waymo Is En Route on Friday October 16, 2026 @04:01PM (#50123773)
> I live in Denver, Colorado. A Waymo drove into a farmers market. Luckily, no one was hurt. I assume a human doing this would be charged with reckless driving.

I also live in Denver, and while the quote is technically true, it is misleading. A Waymo did drive into a farmers market...before there were barricades up, when other cars were still driving through as well for set-up time. Nobody would have been charged with anything.

> “It entered through our food truck area,” said Nicole Jarman, the production director of the farmers market... there was a “Road Closed” sign on one side of the street, but the other side of the street was still open to vendor traffic during set up and the Waymo followed a vendor vehicle past the sign and then turned onto the 1400 block of South Pearl Street.

> “It’s still load-in, our barricades are moved to the side, so there’s vehicular access, and it followed that traffic, went slow, and then made its way on out at Arkansas and kept going” she said.

> “It was not anything that made us nervous,” Jarman said.

Re:Show HN: PS2 games statically recompiled to WebAssembly on Monday October 12, 2026 @11:58AM (#50058300)
If GTA6 shows up for free in a web browser day one, it will for sure hurt sales. Not sure how anyone could argue otherwise: people are paying to play GTA, not paying to support Rockstar. These older games though, I agree with you.
They have updated the site just now with a new sentence clarifying that subscription plans may still be used:

> ...You can still use the Claude Agent SDK, claude -p, and third-party apps with your subscription limits.

For reference, this replaces the following text from yesterday, October 6 [1]:

> Update June 15: We're pausing the changes to Claude Agent SDK usage described below. For now, nothing has changed: Claude Agent SDK, claude -p, and third-party app usage still draw from your subscription's usage limits. The previously announced monthly credit, which would have been available to eligible claimants in connection with these changes, isn't available. We’re working to update the plan to better support how users build with Claude subscriptions. When we have an update, we'll share it before anything takes effect.

I don't see how it wouldn't. Paseo, T3, Zed, etc. all use Claude in the same way.

Max 5x $100

Max 20x $200

Team (Standard seats) $20 per seat*

Team (Premium seats) $100 per seat*

Discounted Team plans (Nonprofit, Scientists) $20 USD per Standard seat and $100 USD per Premium seat*

Claude Agents SDK will no longer use subscription; API credits included in plans

Update October 7, 2026: The Agent SDK monthly credit announced in June is no longer available. Claude Max and Team plans now include monthly API credits, which cover the Claude Agent SDK, the Claude API, and Claude Managed Agents. Claim them into a Claude Console organization and use them with an API key from that organization. Learn more about monthly API credits for Max and Team plans.Link to...

Many of us on this site have worked directly on projects where the efficiency gains ultimately reduced or eliminated positions. If you want to exit the development field, I think the answer is probably the same as for the people whose jobs we helped eliminate.

I use the Apple Vision Pro as my main display, programming for 8+ hours per day. Zero issues as long as you're willing to use larger screens! The PPD on this looks very similar, possibly a bit better due to its lower FOV.
Re:Steam Frame starts at $1059 on Monday September 14, 2026 @02:25PM (#49701581)
For what it's worth, I use the Apple Vision Pro as my primary display for an average of 8+ hours a day without any issues. I have years of experience with previous headsets, but my wife has no issues with the AVP's weight either, despite having no prior experience.
Re:typ.ing on Saturday August 22, 2026 @04:45PM (#49403719)
Not nearly a decade. There are great resources that start you with just a few keys and add more over time. Once you have all 26 letters, it’s time to move on to MonkeyType or an equivalent. You will absolutely have reduced output for a few weeks. I notice a huge difference compared with QWERTY when typing on a MacBook all day. You should not switch layouts for speed, but rather for comfort. The GitHub link contains a few interesting graphics about efficiency if you’re interested, but the very high-level result is sizable comfort gains.

Graphite[0] is my keyboard layout of choice for anyone looking to switch. Huge fan! Had previously used QWERTY and Colemak. These types of sites help tremendously when learning a new layout.

Re:App Store Rejection of the Week: Dark Hours on Friday August 07, 2026 @05:15PM (#49216319)
I've published both iOS and visionOS apps, and my favorite rejection came from visionOS. When you click a link to open it in Safari, the system uses an existing Safari window if available. The app was rejected because the link didn’t work... the reviewer had Safari open somewhere outside their field of view. Approved on appeal :)
Re:The coolest use for the Vision Pro on Wednesday July 29, 2026 @08:28PM (#49104794)
> It's been 2.5 years and Apple still hasn't sold out of its test run of 500k units.

I don't know why you would post something that is clearly not true? They released an upgraded version, sporting an M5, October 2025. They do not sell the original M2 version anymore.

Re:The coolest use for the Vision Pro on Wednesday July 29, 2026 @08:08PM (#49104660)
As far as I know, she only uses it for movies and YouTube. I have demoed mine a few times, but I honestly do not like doing it much because it feels pretty gross to share something that sits on my face all day.
Re:The coolest use for the Vision Pro on Wednesday July 29, 2026 @06:44PM (#49104061)
The Apple Vision Pro has something like 23 million total pixels vs Quest 3 at 9.1 million total pixels. It's a pretty big difference.
Re:The coolest use for the Vision Pro on Wednesday July 29, 2026 @06:41PM (#49104038)
Yes, my wife took the M2 version when I upgraded to the M5. We find it pretty great, and it really is not much different from having a huge personal theater. The headsets appear to display the content in perfect sync. When sharing content with someone in the same room, it does not render a persona or avatar as it does when using FaceTime (where users appear as floating heads and hands).
Re:The coolest use for the Vision Pro on Wednesday July 29, 2026 @05:36PM (#49103386)
I tried with a Quest Pro and did not find it enjoyable at all. I have not tried the latest Galaxy headset to compare.
Re:The coolest use for the Vision Pro on Wednesday July 29, 2026 @05:12PM (#49103158)
Favorite tech product I have ever purchased. I use it as my main MacBook display for often 8+ hours per day. As long as you are willing to bump up the font size a bit, the programming experience is fantastic. I use it as a 21:9 display, but it can go up to 32:9. My wife and I watch movies together in the theater environment, and the in-room sharing experience is great. My face and neck were prepared from numerous past headsets, but my wife really hasn't had any comfort issues. Since this is her first headset, I think that just varies by person.
yolobox is the easiest I have found. Basically a batteries included image with a bit of sugar. https://github.com/finbarr/yolobox

`yolobox run claude` launches Claude Code with --dangerously-skip-permissions mode inside of a container with a good set of default tools included.

Re:A deep dive on agent sandboxes on Tuesday January 13, 2026 @12:43AM (#46597643)
This looks awesome! Do you have a mental process you run through to determine what gets run in the sandbox, or is it your default mode for all tools?
Re:S&box is now an open source game engine on Wednesday November 26, 2025 @09:04PM (#46064676)
I have a feeling that your ideal game, full of cheaters online, would not be very popular.
Re:Introducing Galaxy XR, the first Android XR headset on Wednesday October 22, 2025 @03:32PM (#45674046)
I’m not who you were responding to, but I use it on the plane, at home, mostly for coding but also for entertainment as well. I probably average about 6 to 8 hours a day in the headset. I’ve used a variety of headsets in the past, starting way back with the DK2 for Oculus, and the AVP is the first I felt was truly capable of replacing my monitors.
Re:Apple Vision Pro upgraded with M5 chip on Wednesday October 15, 2025 @06:17PM (#45598972)
It won't look as sharp as a real display at the same size, but it is significantly larger. I've spent probably 3,000+ hours in the headset, with the vast majority of that using the Virtual Display. I've always preferred larger fonts and sitting close to the display, so using the wide virtual display mode has been a fantastic experience for me. My eye-strain-induced migraines have basically disappeared since I started using this as my main display, moving from my previous setup of 30% Studio Display and 70% 16" MBP.

Shared viewing is built into quite a few apps, including the default TV app, based on SharePlay.
Not so sure about this. At scale, sure, but how many apps are out there that perform basic CRUD for a few thousand records max and don't need the various benefits and guarantees a DB provides?
