Waymo was largely built pre-LLM and AI level funding - I think it might be a somewhat apple and pairs comparison.
Re:Meta won't let you block its AI account on Threads on Thursday May 14, 2026 @02:07AM (#48131689)
To add to this for youtube the unhook extension is great to block everything other than search and playing vids

Then I permanently block youtube and reddit on phone. I've explored quite a few blockers - AppBlock for android is the best I've used / has no bugs on my now older s21.

Show HN: Mealplannr – turn YouTube chef videos into weekly meal plans

https://mealplannr.io

I built Mealplannr because I wanted to cook more food from chefs I like, without spending 30–60 minutes every week planning meals and writing shopping lists. The app lets you follow YouTube chefs, find videos with usable ingredients in the description, and save recipes into your own cookbook. From there, you can generate a weekly meal plan and shopping list. The list is auto-categorised,...

I can't relate to this need to fully explore and then document everyone's history - I can have a conversation for an evening and forget everything the next day, and I'm happy with that, the truly important things (to me) will distill themselves naturally.

A case of different strokes for different folks I suppose.

Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (April 2026) on Sunday April 12, 2026 @06:12PM (#47745114)
Now ready to release https://mealplannr.io. The end game is no/low touch weekly meal plans sent directly to your inbox, with meals from the chefs you follow - with none of the hassle around planning the meals, shopping list etc (which I spend hours doing every week).

An important feature for me was improving the recipe discovery experience, you can build a cookbook from chefs you follow on socials (youtube for now), or import from any source (Web, or take pic of cookbook etc) - it then has tight / easy integration into recipe lists.

Utilising GenAI to auto extract recipes, manage conversions, merge/categorise shopping lists etc - as-well as the actual recommendations engine.

If anyone is interested in beta testing / wants to have a chat I'll look out for replies, or message [email protected]

Makes sense and it's a new term for me so thanks for sharing :)
If I were to guess I imagine the downvotes are due to the use of an upvote being preferred over (albeit it well intentioned) comments of "well done" in HN threads (in order to keep signal to noise ratio high)
Sorry for the late reply - it just worked out the box via the GUI for me using Handy.

I've been using handy with parakeet on both Windows and mac, and have been very impressed.

Hoe does this compare?

"We will launch during a dynamic political environment where many civil society groups that we would expect to attack us would have their resources focused on other concerns"

Why would they ever make this statement, there's nothing to gain with that right?

One of my favourite reads for sure - i've been looking for similar reads since.

I and enjoyed "the raw shark texts" after hearing it reccomended - curious if you / anyone else has any other suggestions!

To repeat my comment from another thread:

Every interaction has different (in many cases real) "memories" driving the conversation, as-well as unique persona's / background information on the owner.

Is there a lot of noise, sure - but it much closer maps to how we, as humans communicate with each other (through memories of lived experienced) than just a LLM loop, IMO that's what makes it interesting.

Re:Moltbook on Saturday January 31, 2026 @06:16AM (#46835571)
I would say fairly substantially different for a few reasons:

- You can run any model, for example I'm running Kimi 2.5 not Claude

- Every interaction has different (likely real) memories driving the conversation, as-well as unique persona's / background information on the owner.

Did anyone ever comment on reddit with an expectation of pay?

It's an open forum - similar to here, whatever I post I it's in the public forum and therefore I expect it to be used / remixed however anyone wants.

There is.. we don't need to see the exact same front page articles each week - it reduces the signal to noise ratio for regulars.

Show HN: Run a local LLM to analyse email for threats

https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/eguard/dnpofinmilhbignbnioeppfhjjdajndo

After seeing sophisticated phishing attempts slip through Gmail's filters, a friend and I built a browser extension that uses local AI to analyse emails for threats. It runs entirely in your browser using web-llm, with any threat being clearly labelled with an explanation of why it's suspicious.Still early days, but we'd love feedback from the HN community. Even if you're not comfortable...

Re:Show HN: Hacker News em dash user leaderboard pre-ChatGPT on Saturday August 30, 2025 @07:08AM (#45073669)
I was hoping to see a graph of em-dash usage over time across all comments - would be interesting to see the spike post LLM
Safety critical (will kill someone if not bug free) code makes up <1% of what's shipped, safety clothes which must be of high quality else risk harm to someone make up a similarly small percent

Both will stay manual / require high level of review they're not what's being disrupted (at-least in near term) - it's the rest.

Similar story, running modded COD4 dedicated servers largely got me into programming.

It's depressing the modern COD lobbies - chucked in with skill matched randoms on a small range of gamemodes, comms kept to a minimum so no one gets offended.

Then don't get me started how 50% of playtime is spent loading / in lobbies so eye balls on store can be maximised - I'll pass.

Re:AWS launches Kiro, its Cursor clone on Monday July 14, 2025 @12:49PM (#44562294)
I'm already burnt from amazon Q which was forced onto us in an alpha state in my workplace - was miles behind competitors for a full year, before we finally won the battle to move back to co-pilot.

Going to take a while before I trust any AWS AI related tooling won't just be abandoned / mis-managed after my prior experience.

Re:Nvidia announces next-gen RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs on Tuesday January 07, 2025 @03:04PM (#42626761)
Did I say all the people, or did I say many people?..

Why are you so hostile? I'm not justifying the cost, I'm simply in the 4k market and replying to OP's statement "Any modern card under $1000 is more than enough for graphics in virtually all games" which is objectively false if you're a 4k user.

Re:Nvidia announces next-gen RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs on Tuesday January 07, 2025 @09:59AM (#42623031)
Many people are running 4k resolution now, and a 4080 struggles to to break 100 frames in many current games maxed (never-mind future titles) - therefore there's plenty of a market with gamers and the 5x series (myself included) who are looking for closer to 4090 performance at a non obscene price.
Re:Mullvad Review of 2024 on Friday December 27, 2024 @03:43PM (#42525862)
To flip the question - any modern card provider will 2fa through an app if the payment is suspicious, so why waste your time manually entering them?

It's the same reason I use a password manager, it's convenient and 2fa exists.

Re:Anthropic's Best-of-N Jailbreaking on Monday December 16, 2024 @05:50AM (#42429875)
Seemed pretty simple to me and it's not my field.

My understanding was given a prompt X that is normally rejected, create Y variations with small adjustments to phrasing, grammar etc until it gives you the answer you're after.

The term "jailbreaking" used within a LLM context, is when you craft a prompt as to escape the safety sandbox, if that helps.

A sort of brute forcing the prompts if you like.
