Why don’t more companies simply use discord? Slack is discord for boomers
The answer here is to pull politics out into a separate app, made by FB or someone else

Ask HN: Funny Startup Anecdotes?

One time I accidentally charged a customer $5,000 instead of $50 because the Stripe API takes cents (which would be 5000), and the UI takes $. I entered 5000 into the UI because I was so used to using the API. Still scrapping around manually charging customers because we weren't all the way automated yet.Called up the person and told them what happened and refund was on the way...they didn't...

Re:Ask HN: How did your startup change after an exit? on Sunday October 13, 2019 @06:41AM (#21239672)
This is a good analogy
Domino’s has proven to be surprisingly innovative. As far as I know other pizza chains just....operate.
Great idea! I really wanted to use this...but then I dug into how it worked.

You have to use their Credo cryptocurrency to get your email through / you receive Credo when someone pays. Which no one has and no one should have. They probably take a fee on every payment.

Once you get Credo you probably want to exchange it for USD or another crypto that is more broadly used and accepted at other merchants. How do you do that? Through their exchange which they take a .25% fee to buy sell.

So they double dip on a micropayment of a few cents.

I wonder which part of this enterprise will survive in the long run...the email service or the exchange or neither once the ICO money runs out

Holding tether is useful when you are trading on an exchange that has no fiat on ramp or checking account. Many exchanges are crypto-only, you send crypto in, trade, crypto out. You can hold tether if you want to be exposed to the USD position without having to send out

The real question here is if there will be a way to exchange this coin with Bitcoin or other crypto
Re:Ask HN: Does anyone still use IRC? on Thursday June 06, 2019 @10:26PM (#20121141)
I miss IRC too. Unfortunately I cannot find a good mac IRC client and that seriously has inhibited my desire to use it.

I used to use gamesurge and enterthegame servers mainly to hang and chat with other gaming buddies. So much has changed since then

It would be great if Amazon Prime included internet access. One time fee for the dish, works with all their in-home stuff.

Didn't FB try do this and scrapped the project?

Bitcoin
don't forget the vacuum lines and electrical...
There is definitely something here. It would be nice to have a service aggregate and split costs for the whole trip. And help planning it

Re:Making the world a better place for the colorblind on Wednesday February 06, 2019 @08:19AM (#19094831)
I am red-green colorblind, and I’ve always just accepted that I’ll have a hard time with certain UI’s. I’ve never really thought it worth the time to design for the colorblind. Although recently I noticed Trello has a colorblind mode where you can use patterns as well as colors to denote labels...that is a simple yet effective way and has helped me a lot!

Certainly would be nice to see more of this in the design thought process.
