We're working on some solutions around this problem - a browser level filter on toxic comments / blatant misinformation found on ad-supported platforms, helpful context as a layer on top of content you're reading, and moderated community debate around current events, with enforced norms. Still early if anyone wants to join what's likely to be a non-profit:

Nowruz is basically a cultural holiday (with roots in Zoroastranism) celebrated by all of Iranians and some surrounding countries regardless of their religion.

Kind of short-sighted that the US government is essentially giving the keys to AI innovation and the military (check POTUS’ latest tweets) to Saudi Arabia’s blood hungry elite. More reasons to use what remains of our democracy to change course.

I’m sure there are thousands of Iranian Americans working on Slack that also visit their relatives back home at some point, including ones working at Slack HQ. How far can this logic go?

Same sad story here, 2 doses of Cipro and joints were gone for 6 months. Antioxidants and topical magnesium oil helped. What a nightmare of a drug.

We are tribal animals, "religion" in America will just be replaced by online made-to-order belief systems, Trumpism, anti-Trumpism, etc. At least religions have some time-tested roots.

I think you may have visited a page that's not intended for https via https, then went to the https page and the domain is flagged in Chrome for the session. This is a known issue with Chrome. It wouldn't occur for most users... try clearing your sessions or reopening chrome and browsing the site regularly.

Hi Stanley - The setup steps show as secure with no warning in the latest versions of Chrome, FireFox, Safari, IE on both PC and Mac on my side, which platform are you seeing the warning in?

Ask HN: Review our appointment scheduling app, OpenCal.com

Hi HN,Our small team (2 designers, 1 dev) have been in a thought bubble for the past 1.5 years. Looking for some outside perspective on our recently launched, bootstrapped online appointment scheduling app:http://opencal.com/Basically it's like OpenTable for businesses that sell their time. There's a free plan you can test out. Any marketing tips or feedback would be appreciated!

Re:Apple's attention to detail on Wednesday August 25, 2010 @10:54PM (#1634918)
Apple is the best exmaple of a company that is lead by design. Their products aren't a confusing maze of options and complexity where anything goes, but instead holistic human-friendly devices that are a perfect balance between form and function. Not everyone will be happy with the compromise of "configurability" in favor of "usability" - but the incredible success of Apple products can not be argued with, society at large agrees with simple humanized technology, and will increasingly demand products and services that display good design traits.

Re:Poll: What is your religion? on Sunday July 04, 2010 @10:20PM (#1486977)
I prefer to live life with the cup half full, if you remove the "doubt" in your mind, there is a peaceful underlying unity that can be sensed. Doesn't benefit anyone to make it more complex than that.
Re:That Misery Called Meditation on Tuesday June 29, 2010 @10:58AM (#1471597)
I see he went to an IMS retreat, the one I attended around Seattle was good - until the main teacher came in and gave us a 20 minute speech on why we should donate more money to his "begging bowl." That kind of ruined it for me... and they kept asking for donations afterwards. Once these groups become self-prepetuating institutions it's time to find something else. It's easier just to incorporate meditation into daily life and activities.
