Re:We Have to Start Over: From Atom to Zed on Saturday February 17, 2024 @12:55PM (#39411682)
Why bother with accessibility. If a disabled wants to use an IDE, use a different one??
Re:Coding in Vision Pro on Friday February 16, 2024 @06:30PM (#39404443)
That is a really good idea
Re:Ask HN: Alternatives to the Pomodoro Technique? on Monday February 12, 2024 @02:36PM (#39349287)
Reminds me of where I used to work everything was a “technique” or a “practice” or a “theorem”. Just… work.
Re:BuildKit in depth: Docker's build engine explained on Tuesday February 06, 2024 @04:07PM (#39280609)
Really? Just busy work? Senior engineers incapable of thinking of good onboarding tasks?
Re:Hal Finney was the designer of Bitcoin on Tuesday February 06, 2024 @10:19AM (#39275120)
Opinion posed as fact.
Re:Pkl, a Programming Language for Configuration on Saturday February 03, 2024 @02:07PM (#39243609)
You mean you don’t have a distributed merge post microservice that emits post migration events, which are then consumed by a post owner conversion service using your existing event-driven architecture to facilitate seamless data synchronization and user notification processes??? That is not very hacker news of you from the guy who owns hacker news.
Re:Juno – A YouTube Client for Vision Pro on Friday February 02, 2024 @02:26AM (#39226066)
The fact that he wrote the apollo app? I don’t know. It’s not exactly revolutionary is it
Re:Juno – A YouTube Client for Vision Pro on Friday February 02, 2024 @02:25AM (#39226061)

What is mfd
Typical hacker news reader response... The responsibility for imparting wisdom rests not with the learner, but with the educator.
Confirmed how. It is a theory. CMBR discovery is not confirmation of anything other than the existence of CMBR
Bit late for that mate.
Re:He spent his life building a $1M stereo on Sunday January 14, 2024 @10:33AM (#38991294)
I have a sneaking suspicion they already knew that!

Spends all this money to listen to the highest quality vinyl crackle.

Builds his own speaker cabinets with no thought of acoustics.

Spends thousands trying to get “clean” power.

Doesn’t treat his room.

Classic audiophile.

Few 00$ on acoustic foam, some good room EQ (there is software to do this for you) and some non chinesium speakers is all you need.

Re:Towards Modern Development of Cloud Applications (2023) on Sunday January 14, 2024 @09:46AM (#38990856)
And microservices and nanorepositories solve this issue I assume
Re:Attack of the Week: Airdrop Tracing on Sunday January 14, 2024 @07:54AM (#38989994)
Honestly I would just ignore it. I don’t get paid to do work outside my scope
But an IP address doesn’t identify a person. So what is the point
Re:Show HN: #!/usr/bin/env docker run on Sunday January 14, 2024 @02:10AM (#38988206)
You can say it is wrong without being insufferably condescending
Re:Harmony – A new kind of color picker on Saturday January 13, 2024 @05:40PM (#38985382)
Scroll scroll scroll scroll. Ah. That is what this does.
Re:Exploring Podman: A More Secure Docker Alternative on Saturday January 13, 2024 @04:23PM (#38984722)
I thought docker compose was for local dev only and not meant to be used for production workloads?
Re:YouTransfer: Self-hosted file transfer and sharing solution on Saturday January 13, 2024 @10:34AM (#38980844)
That sounds like a whole lot of effort. Just buy iCloud.
Re:Rkyv: A zero-copy deserialization framework for rust on Saturday January 13, 2024 @10:25AM (#38980753)
This fetishisation of zero copy, whatever that means, usually ends up in a less than optimal solution anyway.

Ask HN: Are there any platforms for pair programming matching to learn skills

I want to learn new engineering skills, unrelated to my job. I have no friends and I do not want to pressure colleagues. I find self directed courses to be a bore, are too high level, or assume way too much foundational knowledge. I work best having someone to guide me or chat through things, perhaps working towards a shared goal.Does such a place exist?

What if you assigned each user a unique ID, used this to determine the user session data and persisted this data in a server that was accessible by both web browsers. You could authenticate yourself against this user id by means of a secret only this user knows

It sounds a bit radical but it may work!

Re:Attack of the Week: Airdrop Tracing on Friday January 12, 2024 @06:12PM (#38975442)
