Normal Ubuntu approach. Not news. I have personally got a bunch on 10+ year old bug tickets on Launchpad and only lately got a feedback like: "is this still relevant"?

Of course, if one hides a bug long enough it will eventually disappear or become irrelevant.

Yes, indeed, WTF Ubuntu?

No, it is not, IMHO. When you create an "alias" you are adding "yet-another-confusion-opportunity" and "yet-another-failure-opportunity".

For no actual reason.

I for one would aim at lowering the complexity, not at making stuff more fancy.

Re:Introducing Kwi, a new KDE terminal emulator on Monday November 02, 2026 @01:49AM (#50333833)
For kwi to win I would expect both more features and fewer computing resources (cpu, ram, gpu if any).

Imho, more features alone is not enough as it brings more complexity and lower maintainability.

Any activity that makes your brain working actively helps fighting that decline: crosswords, sudoku, you name it.

As opposed to watching tv series or just doing nothing.

While not "portable" in the common modern sense, we also had:

Apple IIc (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_IIc)

and it's younger and final brother Apple IIc Plus (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_IIc_Plus)

Sorry, my bad sight tricked me.
Re:La Cueva BBS in Mexico in 1993 (session replay) on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @01:34AM (#49988679)
It's a rather weird combination of year, CPU and memory.

Z80 is (still) an 8-bit CPU with 16-bit addressing. It cannot access more than 64kiB at a time. The hardware and the software needed to overcome that limit was worth more than an 8088/8086 (or compatible CPU) with MS-DOS and Telix.

In 1993,the age of 80286 and 80386, 8088/8086 were considered low-low-end CPUs, let alone the Z80, even in Mexico.

Not pointing my finger, just stating some facts.

According to latest executive order, Spain has been renamed "Spanish Peninsula of America". So Diplodocus keeps being exclusively American.
Because it is theirs?

Would you keep your food or car in someone else's garage?

It's just money. Nothing else. Just money.
135 CHF > 0 CHF
Basic statistical?

I have seen too many parents (i am a teacher) lacking basic mathematical and geometrical understanding.

Let alone, statistics.

Schooling is broken, society is rotting, culture is dead.

Useless. They tried already in Italy. Results? Unsolicited iphone calls from other EU country codes.
Re:Aristotle quotes on virtue, knowledge, and happiness on Wednesday August 05, 2026 @10:34AM (#49183600)
Maybe, yes "maybe" Robert got inspiration from a guy who lived two thousands years earlier.

If you ever wondered, those are among the things that made that single person standing out of the crowd od Humanity for more than two thousands years.<3
This is not the first time I see people copy-typing text by hand instead of copy-pasting it.

I am not sure why they do that, but when I see a DevOps engineer doing it I have a chilling feel.

Re:Harddrive Is Probably Full on Monday July 27, 2026 @01:35AM (#49065517)
If my plans is to have it all invested (or spent), then yes it is ok.
Re:Harddrive Is Probably Full on Saturday July 25, 2026 @07:14PM (#49052759)
... and It is ok.

I bought 16TB disk because I needed that much storage.

If I were using, say, only 10TB, I would be wasting 6TB.

I can expand my LVM as much as I can. But I definitely want my disk to be full. Same goes for my RAM.

And I want my CPU ide time to stay as close as possible to 0% and my load average as close as possible to my no. of CPUs.

Anything else would mean oversizing and overspending.

Re:The World's 2,400 Castles on Tuesday July 21, 2026 @03:04PM (#48996648)
Italy, like Germany, Austria and maybe a few more European countries host more than 5,000 "castles".
Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (July 2026) on Sunday July 12, 2026 @06:14PM (#48885392)
RV64 toy/hobby kernel. No compatibility aim but rather at efficiency and speed.

Finally, a new post in their blog.
C++ CPUs?
Who has been validating that approach to solve their own optimization target?
Which optimizer replaces a 64k loop with 64k instructions?

Ah, yes. Microsoft's!
