Re:Marriott says 5.2M guests exposed in new data breach on Wednesday April 01, 2020 @02:09AM (#22746172)
I often wonder how big my data footprint is. I don't have any social media, and I cycle between a few handles on any publicly facing site I keep an account with. I suppose Google must have all of my search history associated with my main email address, but I use several different emails and browsers in my day to day.

I guess I'm wondering how good all of these companies are at sharing data between themselves. What kind of data is exposed when I use my primary email to log into Zoom or Spotify on a work computer, or my phone, or one of my relative's computers? To what extent do these companies coordinate and share this data?

It all just seems like a really big unknown to me, and I'm relatively tech savvy.

What Happened to MyFitnessPal?

I used this app almost daily about 5 years ago. It was great, just a little calorie calculator. I could pull it up super fast and jot down what I was eating. The weight tracking system was neat, but I personally didn't even use that.I downloaded it this weekend because I've been meaning to start getting in better shape... Re:Ask HN: Best way to build a mobile iOS app in 2020? on Friday February 21, 2020 @08:38PM (#22388815)
I'm very much a web developer, but I've been on a mobile iOS project for the past 6 months or so.

My team decided we didn't want to fight Apple, and went all in on xcode and swift.

The first month was rough because I do 90% of my development in vs code. Xcode is a lot upfront, but very powerful once you get the hang of it. Spending the time to learn how to use the storyboard properly has really paid off for us. Our designer loves it.

Overall, if you can spare the time, doing it Apple's way isn't too bad.

My team is pretty comfortable now, with the exception of managing our git. Storyboards can make merges almost impossible sometimes, and we really haven't figured out a good way to go about it. So if you're working with a large team this should be a huge con for going the swift route.

Do you have any plans to address TLD squatting?

Don't use CF. Route everything directly to a reverse proxy on your home server.
