amazing. its like states are a different snapshots of America during different time periods.
corporations want to extract the maximum possible value
from their human assets, without exhausting them or
provoking rebellion or escape
some continuously turnover people. their business relies on ripping people off and exhausting them.

I think what is not being discussed is debt. Debt is used to finance this type of growth.

Really embarrassed that I haven't submitted an application yet. I didn't have a camera to upload introducing yourself so I put it off until now. What should you write in your application to improve your chances of getting in?

I think there is another boom that is fading, a potentially more serious one that is China's housing market. It is flooded with supply. Capital flight to the West, with property developers defaulting on debt, li kai shing (richest HK dude) dumping all his assets in China a while ago. The fading or faltering of the tech sector could be related but who knows, this is a government that likes to keep a blanket over everything.
Scrape.it works on building a web scraping tool that minimizes effort and time invested to quickly extract data from websites. Web scraping is simple in theory but building a tool that can work with a lot of different websites in the wild is no easy task.
I am looking for a co-founder.
https://scrape.it
Mechanical Turk gets expensive fast, and isn't very accurate, usually with any type of service, there's an overhead.
What this seems like is a quick way to get grunt work done. I can see how web scraping can fit nicely. However, some student with a lot of free time won't value their time as much so they will write a scraper but someone like a manager with a busy engineering team can save a lot of time outsourcing tasks like this.
Another solution is to use web scraping tool like https://scrape.it to scrape a website even for complicated AJAX websites. After you know how to use it, it's way faster than writing a scraper from scratch.
Disclaimer: I wrote scrape.it

Do we really need to reinvent the wheels? Microservice, the async craze feels like, we now need to create a single wheel that is made up of many wheels, and spend an enormous time making it look and feel like a single wheel that was working fine, never mind that it serves absolutely no difference to the end user, it will make our next few years interesting because the old way of creating the wheel is boring and unexciting.
I think that after a few years, software businesses will realize that it was an investment with questionable advantages and go right back to what was working fine for the past decade and will continue to work fine.
this was a really cool effect...but I never found SNL to be funny. I've never even laughed at it once. I don't understand why people laugh...that and jimmy fallon/kimmel
used npm, and started using pip. it was way better because you could use python and not javascript.
don't you feel that if you a language's short coming is addressed by adding more of it in the form of duct tapes is problematic? I love javascript when it was doing simple things on the DOM, not trying to recreate the desktop in the browser, making it render across different devices and browsers, making it crawlable by running a headless qtwebkit process to serve pages that google can't see, using a slow and unstable document storage database often advertised with an old javascript engine requiring you to write chains of callbacks for even the simplest operations, all in the back of my mind believing that somehow all this complexity has helped me, why, look around everybody's doing it. This Java/PHP/Apache garbage that has worked well but didn't feel cool or fad enough? Let's kick it.
Do you guys think that we are now moving into a new trend on the client side now? React + Flux vs. Angularjs, Backbone.js?
It seems that every job, even backend positions, require Angularjs or Backbone.js knowledge. Having largely ignored the two and hoping they would die, I am ready to learn React + Flux to accelerate to this cause.
what is the point of such a long sentencing? 440 years?

So I've been wanting to switch from software development into pen testing and security consulting. I want to get some practical skillset enough to consult local tech companies. In general, need some materials which I can follow and learn as well as some guidance. To become a software developer the path is pretty clear, you learn the language, build some stuff on your own, and take on real world...

It's been down for a while and wondering if there's any other sites for programming gigs or jobs that you would recommend? CL has been my source for a good number of years and I have yet to venture into other channels.
so how are people coming up with zero-day vulnerabilities all the time? How are these people able to find a way to inject code in pdf or word documentation year after year? Is software forever vulnerable, even ones written by huge number of engineers?
I wonder wouldn't such map invite trolls and griefers that would just come to destroy everything in sight?
I understand Russia, Pakistan, Afghanistan are targets. But Saudi Arabia? It strikes me as odd.
this was really beautiful. I almost blurted out it was art but then I was forced to remember we can't call computer generated things art by some hidden rule.
I just use chrome extension
what makes you depressed about it?
how would you get into learning those platforms?
The server side changes I'm not too thrilled about javascript making it's way to server side when so many wheels exist already in form of php, java, python.
The client side I've set by on the bench while I continued to hack with jQuery but now it's ridiculous, just about any development job now requires backbone.js or angularjs of some sort. I've yet to see React appear as often but maybe thats the beginning of another trend. Some shops I've worked with who bet their projects on Javascript Everywhere™ seems to have become more risk averse but it could be just a wishful thinking on my part.
What was so bad about Angular 2.0? I don't think I would ever deal with backbone.js because it makes Java Swing seem easy, which is practically whats happening, people trying to replicate desktop apps in a browser with an awful language not originally tasked for the job so they come up with weird freak of nature like Coffeescript.
