I can relate to this experience as well. The transition catched me off guard. My advice would be to embrace the change while staying true to yourself. Live without regrets and, as Arnold Schwarzenegger would say, don't listen to the naysayers.

I also love the fact the paper has the word "miffed", you do not hear this much!

Watched the "get stated" video to the end and gave a great overview of how helpful the tool can be while building react apps.

Awesome work and well done!

The Java Black Book was my favorite a long time ago - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Java-Black-Book-Steven-Holzner/dp/1...

I learned React using Stephen Grider online courses.

Really good work!

Re:Show HN: RecBox.io on Wednesday May 23, 2018 @07:10AM (#17133100)
Hi - you are assuming everyone uses gmail . The other benefit is I am not always happy giving out my personal email address with a load of people in earshot.
Re:Show HN: RecBox.io on Wednesday May 23, 2018 @03:11AM (#17131942)
OK Thanks for your feedback. I will look to see if I can come up with a better logo.

The ads do not look at what you have purchased at all. I used Google Admob to help cover cost but these are generic ads and not based on what you have sent to your recbox email address.

Show HN: RecBox.io

I wanted to get two things from building an App1) I wanted to learn how to build and deploy an app with react-native and google cloud.2) Also, I recently purchased an item in a department store and gave my personal email address and I received my receipt as expected. But I also received a load of emails about promotions over the coming weeks which cluttered my inbox. My App can be found...

With regards to the privacy policy, being a small (2 person) company I was limited with the options available.

I wrote the app for two reasons:

1) Store all my receipts in one place and stop my email filling up with future emails from these stores

2) I wanted to learn/explore React Native and Google Cloud

There are ads on the app but these are to cover the running costs if people did decide to use it.

There is no dubious intentions, I was just keeping my skills fresh and thought other people would find the app useful.

Thanks for your feedback.

All the best
