Do the majority spend their time in pursuit of money because they want to or because the rent is so damn high? Because it’s what we’re educated to do? I don’t mean academic education either. I mean Main Street social norms where there’s no longer being friends with neighbors. But they’ll mow your lawn for money if you’re ever too busy (had that exact conversation with a neighbor recently; we aren’t going to be friends/friendly but will serve you for $).

We didn’t need to build ChatGPT for that. Such physical measure and awareness that resources are finite and humans require resources has been in front of human eyeballs for centuries.

You’re just a contemporary worker bee following orders. The economy is built on academic BS as the older, less numerate financier generation had no ability to falsify that which they had no education in, they handed their pensions and post world war welfare job money to their kids who made up this and think the future just has to keep honoring decades old contracts while ignoring they don’t honor their elders past.

Entropy will attenuate the past. Our achievements are meaningless to the next centuries as physics will force them to be rebuilt.

> We stop growing not only when we stop learning, but when we stop creating.

This is generic enough to leave open to debate what we should create.

It waves off the impact on the future to create.

It’s cute and poetic but as usual ignores externalities as our taught economic models inherently rely on ignoring externalities. You are refusing to engage in such discussion because we don’t socially normalize an obligation to do so.

Why must we create what we currently create?

Can you not create new skill and awareness any other way? Are you that unimaginative you must simulate the galactic differential manifold inside a machine as you cannot imagine it and draw it for yourself? At the cost of what for the species over the next decades for us?

And I say for us as you cannot guarantee there’s Lindy effects measured in centuries from the outputs of the work. It’s not unreasonable to find all this high minded talk near equivalent to hearsay and religious belief in the potential for forever growth and expansion.

It’s not unreasonable to assume this just conviction to economic memes you memorized wrapped in overly reductive poetry to obfuscate.

Maybe. But there is no maybe about the mess being left for the future.

If future people are forfeit as we refuse to sacrifice today, why preserve people today? I say bring chaos now so the mess makers deal with their externalities for a change instead of waving them off to make “line go up”.

Gen pop really should try that since they flip out at pols if they change the rules.

To paraphrase George Carlin, politicians come from our neighborhoods and institutions. They don’t cross over from another reality. Society births, educates, and elects them with thunderous applause.

Then refuses to take the blame. Always just “damn government’s fault”.

Propaganda got Americans living inside a prisoners dilemma

Not an endorsement but a criticism of how schools teach math: https://www.mentava.com/

According to Mentava their program has 5th graders ready for AP math and middle schoolers ready for college computer science.

20 minutes a day.

It’s just another language. A lot of people see it as esoteric wizardry; the debbil in der math, Bobby!

One plus one

1+1

Same thing, less parchment, less writing stick needed. It’s data compression for an era where Walmart didn’t exist

Yeah need that muscle memory and not just the eyeball/ear memory

Neurons aren’t special. Electrical state is all over our bodies. Need to use it to trigger the chemistry that builds muscle not just neurons

Re:AI should replace clueless managers, not workers on Monday May 13, 2024 @03:10PM (#40347085)
Human managers also easily succumb to survivorship and confirmation bias (I got this far when others didn’t; I must be great!)

I very much am for letting the machines do it all socializing/democratizing what “all” means, and otherwise giving people their time. But we continue to draw out hierarchical charts because that’s what we’ve been doing for centuries

Sunk cost fallacy applies to human history over generations. The memes of the recent past are not immutable and will necessarily change as generational change attenuates their signal. Being afraid of it is childish

Gradients and ranges of belief, constantly shifting the colors of the social spectrum

It’s all just recursive computation and memoization of the important bits.
Get out of your routine and introduce some dissonance.

Outside is an endless miasma of geometric and color gradient state change overload for the brain, garbage collects the social objects we’re forced to hallucinate.

Sit in one spot too long and it all goes fractal.

Amazon, Kroger, Red Bull… brands… have all the capital, buy up supply, add their markups and fees, etc influence supply and demand through price fixing in abstract math games. Meanwhile the public is shackled to nickel and dime, dollars and sense finance and cannot get ahead, they tread water while also doing all the work to prop up the brands.

We need to keep stuff on shelves or people will riot. But we also need to validate the past rulers for some reason by enabling them to monopolize capital. As we cling to Anglo-babble story about risk taking. When tree trimmer was number one most dangerous job in 2023, and the rest are blue collar jobs… police not on the list, fwiw… the rich investor is using story they won for some reason to avoid real risk of trimming a tree.

But Protestant work ethic and so a generational Ponzi scheme to funnel dads post world war welfare job money and hand it to juniors startups and hedge funds is ongoing.

Same as back in the day when landed gentry paid the church to let their kids avoid work by studying theology

What’s great is since these are social hallucinations and they aren’t real it’s belief in social hallucinations not real stuff; it’s effectively nihilism given it ignores externalities of its resource use, but dressed up in ties, animated pitches that titillate and manipulate oxytocin and dopamine

“Real stuff” retail logistics is 100% a game of physical statistics; keep enough necessities on shelves people don’t riot.

Everything else about society is conservative political ideology

Just angling for vanity rewards based upon peddling the best story, the best trauma, or best political network connections given contemporary zeitgeist; no Im the best aligned with set of virtues!. Whose family sold the most cars during the auto boom, and why we should still care…

It’s hilariously bad

People who refuse to continuously integrate new life experience and prefer to idle under one prestige title or two until they die are wild.

Feels a lot like rent seeking.

It’s a bit Middle Ages; god king has said this man is named Farmer, so he shall farm for life. A monolithic person.

What is the issue with not making more Tesla factories?
Pairs well with corporates “next quarter without regards for global impact”

At some point we all just project “Gfy.” and refuse to “blink” and measure ourselves; we just keep rolling, saying “Gfy.” to those in the way. Maybe we couch that in pointless arguments like “where else should this unnecessary car company exist?”

Doesn’t really seem like just a “German greens” thing to project non-existent authority
