I see "Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)" when zoomed in all the way. "Gulf of America" when zoomed out.

This is a first step towards "the holodeck". You describe a scene and it exists. Imagine you could jump in and interact with it. That seems like something that could happen in 10-20 years.
Does this mean I can write a print function and be able to print"hello world" without parentheses again, like in python 2.x ?
"Apple announced that its board had authorized $110 billion in share repurchases, a 22% increase over last year’s $90 billion authorization. It’s the largest in history, ahead of Apple’s previous repurchases, according to data from Birinyi Associates." -

Does the heat treatment damage electronics? Can you leave your computers in the house while your house is baking?
If "the singularity" is a real thing that can happen, it seems like there is an incentive for species that fear "the singularity" to preemptively wipe out any civilizations they find which seem close to achieving AGI

How good is error handling on USB 4? The rare times I've had data corruption it was almost always when transferring lots of data using USB (this happened to me on multiple drives, computers, usb ports or cables. this was in the early USB 3 days)
Video's description : "Sep 15, 2023 -- In 2021 the FORCEDENTRY sandbox escape introduced the usage of NSPredicate in an iOS exploit. This new technique allowed attackers to sidestep codesigning, ASLR, and all other mitigations to execute arbitrary code on Apple devices. As a result, Apple put in place new restrictions to make NSPredicate less powerful and less useful for exploits. This presentation will cover new research showing that these added restrictions could be completely circumvented in iOS 16, and how NSPredicates could be exploited to gain code execution in many privileged iOS processes. This technical deep dive will be a rare instance of iOS security that anyone can comprehend without years of experience."
As a kid I always admired AVATAR (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Video_Attribute_Termi... ) and wondered why more people didn't use it for art. It was far more efficient. I'd use it wherever I could, and it would feel like my modem got a 2x speed boost. But I'd never seen any BBS software convert ANSI art into AVATAR on the fly...
Also, displaying ANSI with ANSI.SYS was completely unsafe, as there were codes to redefine keyboard input (i.e. turn F1 into Format C:)
The first Pi (2012 release) was $35, this release is, when inflation adjusted to 2012 dollars, $44. So in the same ballpark-ish
I am sad because Paul Reiche III has left the project, though it seems he did write a story before leaving --
https://pistolshrimpgames.com/2023/09/uqm2-update-summer-202...From Fred:
"Well, after 30+ years working with Paul, I would never speak for him, but he got to a point where his focus was fractured and he couldn't do justice to any of his competing interests. He stuck it out with us long enough to deliver the story/worldbuilding side and now, as always, he's trusting me and the rest of us to bring it home. Will he be able to return? Unknown. Is he still my best friend? For sure."

I've been using computers since I was a pre-teen, it wrecked both my forearms (and later, my neck) in my early 30's. There was NO WARNING, the issues just happened out of nowhere. I always thought RSI, if it happened to me, would happen gradually and I'd know to stop/rest. The neck stuff has taken a decade to heal and it's still not back to normal.
Re: #2 - The UEFI bloatware/rootkit checked the Windows version: if you used Windows 8 or up it used the "feature" called "Windows Platform Binary Table", but Windows 7 didn't have that, so for Windows 7 it overwrote CHKDSK.EXE with a Lenovo loader on every reboot. So, yeah, they were overwriting OS binaries on disk, not just relying on WPBT. (But no reports of binaries being overwritten on on Linux)

This space is moving so fast my jaw drops every time I read something about it. For example this line:
"... has discovered empirically that the capability for moral self-correction emerges at around 22B parameters. For more scientific details, the paper is here. [https://arxiv.org/pdf/2302.07459.pdf]"
I remember watching one of the final episodes of Connections 3: With James Burke, and he casually said we'd have personal assistants that we could talk to (in our PDAs). That was 1997 and I knew enough about computers to think he was being overly optimistic about the speed of progress. Not in our lifetimes. Guess I was wrong!
He also lost a lot of Bitcoins on the Mt Gox hack b/c he thought it would be safe. He's just one person and I wouldn't draw any big conclusions about it. (One person who has been a massive target for something like this for many years, I would add)
There is an "Official 30th Anniversary Celebration" of Star Control 2 with the game's creators, today at 4pm EST at

This was 10+ years ago, but I had an issue with my motherboard not liking my RAM when in dual channel mode that memtest/memtest+ could not find, but Windows Memory Diagnostic (advanced tests) did find. So it's worth running both if you are ever stumped.
