So India is helping them clear some of those camps. Pakistan can very well be thankful for this one then!

Unfortunately, India's poorest still don't get govt benefits due for them: A few gobble up all the caste-based reservation from the govt. I have seen many people who have made a career out of talking about caste all the time.

I know more than 3 people in the US, who talk about caste all the time (as in that's their job now) but grew up in very privileged families.

This is fascinating!
Could be because the Indian Premier Cricket League (IPL), which started in 2008, is huge now. Here's the per match broadcast value of sports leagues around the world (Jun 2023):

1.NFL: $17 million

2. IPL: $13.4 million

3. EPL: $11 million

4. MLB: $11 million

5. NBA: $9 million

Alternatively (and I know many folks won't like this idea), Reddit can offer to buy out Apollo and the other 2-3 top iOS and Android apps with a generous Discounted Cash Flow market value; These Apps have put a lot of effort in development over the years and they have helped make Reddit better and more accessible.

Same. Testing is an issue. I bought into the Hotwire idea on a recent project. But I can’t see how it’s any different then SSR + jQuery. They have some nice ideas, but it requires every team member to know the whole thing top to down. Backend engineers can’t always be burdened with taking care of HTML/templating/Writing JS specific functions. Feels almost wrong to me at how hard it has been sold.
Re:Nature does not use propellers. So why do people? on Friday December 17, 2021 @10:58PM (#29601494)
I meant in terms of the rotating motion, not wear and tear :)... since the OP was about Nature vs. Propellers.
The awareness is growing now, especially in the internet generation. A lot of people in rural areas are quite out of touch with basic healthcare, let alone mental healthcare. India is too big to generalise: from Instagram influencers to beggars (watching whom will break your heart), there's a whole everything.

Well, nature does not use Tyres either.
Seriously! Indian govt institutes are so blasé about modernizing their ways that it's embarrassing.
So the Indian Institute of Sciences hasn't got the memorandum on psychological counselling yet?

Some very sharp networking engineers that I've worked with did hold a CCNP or higher certificate. They are not necessarily a bad indicator, but not a sure shot confirmation of ability either.
Re:Court issues permanent injunction in Epic vs. Apple case on Saturday September 11, 2021 @03:00AM (#28489946)
Yeah! I hate the idea of retroactive taxes. But the way big-tech blocks others, there should be some compensation to the things they inhibited.

(Should oil companies be penalised for the damage they have done to the environment just in terms of promoting plastic?)

You need to consider whether there's a difference between physical mail and Email (esp. Gmail)? And whether Google's business model is monopolistic because its 'software' over the internet.
May I point out that much of the 'positivity' on Instagram is pretty toxic too. There are people just showing the best parts of life and abusive people re-posting the kindest quotes. It all feels like smoke and mirrors to me.
Re:A top-grossing scam on the App Store on Wednesday April 14, 2021 @09:37AM (#26806873)
> there is a much deeper problem with Apple

Which might as well be greed — after all 30% of 5Mn = 1.5Mn USD. They make a lot of money by allowing scammy apps to continue operating.

I hope these cases becomes a major reason why they have to open up the App Store.

Re:Over 90% of Indian techies in the US are upper-caste Indians on Wednesday September 23, 2020 @02:36AM (#24563684)
A huge problem with the way reservation (affirmative action) is given to Scheduled Castes candidates, is that it's enjoyed by very few families. I know people who have 3 generations of govt officers (foreign services and all) due to reservation. While a majority for whom reservation was put in place never receive it.
Re:Things we learned running Postgres 13 on Tuesday September 22, 2020 @08:47AM (#24553802)
[Off Topic] Postgres 13 doesn't work with the PSequel client; PSequel is no longer developed and that kinda sucks.
In July 2019, 22 countries wrote a letter to UNHRC condemning China's atrocities against Uyghurs.

In response, 50 nations wrote a counter letter praising China for remarkable efforts in promoting human rights through development.

None of the 22 countries was a Muslim nation.

There's always someone making weird correlations between Blockchain/Cryptocurrency and some random idea.
> First, auto-takeoff is not possible

So was auto-driving; engineering visionaries don't stop at what is currently possible.

> Director of IT for the FCPS took the fall, but Blackboard was at root the problem

Rightly so. The Director of IT should have known better than to push a flawed product hard on parents/teachers, for months. I'm wondering what Blackboard's sales practices are like that they can get school's IT people on their side!

Wow, you'all at Edubase going hard with posting positive reviews on the internet! Dunno if HN is the target audience for your product though.
What's your definition of Water scarce? 38 years, Barring the dessert region, which part are you talking about?
