Re:Re-Print of Hitler's 'Mein Kampf' Unleashes Row in Germany on Wednesday December 23, 2015 @03:33PM (#10785484)
"German authorities have made clear anyone reprinting an unedited version will be subject to incitement laws."

Nothing has changed. The Strafgesetzbuch § 86a exempts academic study from the ban on Nazi propaganda, and now Mein Kampf is eligible for the same.

At least 100 kb/s upload, assuming you don't edit torrc.

RCN's on my radar for sure, but XMission is the standard against which I'm comparing services.

What assurance is there that RCN won't pull any bullshit like blocking SMTP or throttling Tor?

Broadband access is very much a freedom thing if Comcast is your only option.

I live in one of America's wealthiest cities and the undisputed tech capital of the east coast, yet finding a decent ISP is difficult bordering on impossible.

There's exactly one good ISP in my city called netBlazr, but they don't service my neighborhood. So we get Comcast instead: bandwidth rates approaching a tenth of advertised speeds, outright throttling for certain services, cheap hardware with limited firmware, ubiquitous surveillance, and no legal recourse at all.

Freedom.

Re:Software developed or maintained by the OpenBSD project on Friday December 18, 2015 @02:20PM (#10760352)
Thanks for clarifying.

I suppose it's more accurate to say that while OpenBSD doesn't kill processes outright, it maintains an environment where poor quality software will more likely crash than do harm.

The source of login(1) for anyone interested <http://cvsweb.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/src/usr.bin/login/>.

Each release is like an obituary for grudgingly tolerated Unix software. See X11, Apache, BIND, Sendmail, OpenSSL, etc. Let's toast to a GCC replacement before 7.0!

Firefox won't crash if you raise the memory limit in /etc/login.conf. OpenBSD kills processes using more than 512MB by default.

You'd be lucky to find 1 in 1,000 to donate money out of kindness, even if you published an entire book on the Web and continued writing on matters of interest.

It's moot. My family bought her an iPad before I could intervene.
Reporting back to say the print version is infinitely better than the ePub and Web versions.

Thanks again, it's a fun and easy reference work!

I follow a simple rule online: If a site's content doesn't load for me, then the site probably isn't worth visiting.

My Firefox profile uses uMatrix, NoScript (scripts globally allowed), HTTPS Everywhere, and a good hosts file.

Encrypted communication hasn't historically been a serious deterrent for one of the world's premier intelligence services. I like to assume the FBI hires capable detectives, but this recent "crypto frenzy" indicates otherwise.
Re:Show HN: Clojure for the Brave and True – now free online on Wednesday October 21, 2015 @11:58AM (#10426310)
Thanks for publishing this gratis!

I've been following along for some months, but put off ordering it because I bought Fogus and Hauser instead.

Now there's a deadline on the 30% discount. I'll make a point this week to refer to "Brave and True" as much as possible.
