I am a mentor for 4th graders with the Science Club for Girls (http://www.scienceclubforgirls.org/). At the beginning of each session we listen to tracks on this site to get everyone calmed down and focused for the weekly activity. They thought it was silly at first, but now they request it!

Learning programming fundamentals (flow control, common data structures, object-oriented programming, etc.) may be more useful than learning several different languages. I know Python isn't on your list of available courses, but I do like the Python tutorial (http://docs.python.org/tutorial/) as an introduction to programming fundamentals.
Having a project like a web app is a goal is a great idea; there's really no substitute for experience.
Good luck!
Re:Ask HN: What would you do if there was no Internet?
on Tuesday September 14, 2010 @09:47PM (#1693011)
Reading, rock climbing, enjoying the outdoors, getting exercise, spending time with my family.
If there were no Internet because the Internet didn't exist, the world would be very different and maybe I'd have stuck around school for another degree helping people dream it up. :)
If there were no Internet because I were stranded somewhere with no Internet, I'd find a way to get the hell out of there.

If you'd still like to do a scheduled reboot a few times per
year, you can--but at least now you can do so at your
leisure, without being insecure for days or weeks because your
system is not up to date.
