You’re comparing Apple to Facebook is especially gross.

In the U.S. we don’t ethically cleanse in the name of political stability - we ethically cleanse in the name of economic growth.

It’s a shame your country couldn’t get back its technical edge.

Because it worked on Japan in the 80s and 90s and sometimes “Americans” have a hard time telling the two cultures apart.

I have seen first hand how Chinese nationals behave when visiting Taiwan - it’s not pretty.

Shared language and history aside, these two cultures are not in the same solar system when it comes to social norms and curtesies.

The U.S. is not the country conducting amoral behavior with terrorist regimes for oil, that’s China.

We conduct amoral behavior with terrorist regimes for dollars.

It seems really cool, but the entry-level tier just seems too expensive. I can get a single pain-in-the-ass OVH VPS for $7. I just need something better than that for the same price.

That's a really good distinction. I realize this is a little snide, but I imagine when they look in the mirror they still see themselves as Marc Andreessen.

this is compounded by young, newly rich tech workers (no kids, no mortgage, maybe not even a car) experimenting with being a VC because they've recently reached accredited investor status.

and it's not just ZIRP. every recent IPO or liquidity event creates literally 500 more of these guys.

this is likely to be the most interesting argument I will read today: is substack legit editorial journalism?

certainly there is no organized journalistic outfit behind it, but also, a lot of legit journalists want their substacks to be taken as facts of record.

Indeed we prefer the world where only deep-pocketed entrenched monopolies can do this.

I am trying to understand, are you saying marketing always needs to be hand-rolled?
The conclusion was the takeaway. Everyone is getting bumped up a skill notch, not just bozo liars.

Knowing this is the wrong crowd, I hesitate to even type this, but come on... The pace of evolution on this topic is hard to ignore:

2024 - Utter Trash

2025 - Merely hotdog water

2026 - Aaaaaaaaaactually pretty good...

Every forward-leaning platform is building out an MCP interface, I think we're past the point of "soulless fad."

I saw a gh for a $100 stringer missile last week. I often wonder if I will miss the stable tyranny of American capitalism if we descend back into warring nation states defended by cheap autonomous munitions.
