Nicely done! Played two puzzles and had a blast! Works awesome on mobile

I really enjoyed this podcast of a comedian describing her interactions with mensa.

Doesn’t this ignore that some data may be privileged/too big to send to the cloud. Perhaps i have my health records in Apple Health and Kaiser Permanente. You can imagine it being okay to be accessed locally, but not sent up to the cloud

Seconding watch duty. Been invaluable as I evacuated. Happily donated/paid the subscription!

Just wanted to say I'm sorry your fiancé is ill. I got engaged this year and owe a lot of my physical health, mental health, and productivity to my fiancé.

I would also find it hard to remain productive while a loved one is sick. I hope the holidays give you some time to rest and recharge, and that 2025 is a better year for you.

You're totally right - I'll update the copy to make the life science domain clearer.
Re:Show HN: PlatePlanner – Design Beautiful Platemaps on Friday August 09, 2024 @10:05PM (#41206805)
I think this would be an awesome feature to build out - if you're open to chatting about it, could you send me an email at [email protected] ?

I'll stash that idea for our pivot. "Let AI generate your seating arrangement"
Re:Show HN: PlatePlanner – Design Beautiful Platemaps on Monday August 05, 2024 @10:29AM (#41161694)
I am currently building out PlatePlanner - would love to get any and all feedback here or via email ([email protected])!

I'm working on a UI kit for life science research!

https://docs.nitro.bio/

A lot of bioinformatics tools have been recompiled to wasm, and I'm working on integrating them these vizualizations.

But this is equally true for partnering with Microsoft or Google. Why go for OAI over the other bigger, actually owning infra players?
The brand recognition is surely flowing from the iPhone to ChatGPT.

They’ll have to rebrand siri though

I can’t imagine apple has chip production scaled to the point it could support all the inference queries coming from all the iPhones
I understand the motivation from the OAI side. what does apple gain though?

The purported google deal made a lot more sense to me. OAI is terrified of google, and Apple could mitigate Pixel differentiating against iPhone. Google would get a bunch of training data as well.

Ben Thompson of Stratechery raised a good question - why isn't Apple partnering with Microsoft instead of OpenAI? Microsoft has the weights, can provide the requisite infra, is in the process of derisking the OpenAI collaboration via defacto aquihires...

OpenAI is losing people, has a CEO with a mixed reputation, irritates a famous actress who beat Disney in court...

Thanks for the kind words :)

I built the wrapper/playground [0] linked in the article. Feel free to give feedback here or by the email in my bio

I have a less elegant, but perhaps less "magic" setup here: https://github.com/nitro-bio/micro-app
Re:Why do maps apps have essentially no caching? on Thursday December 14, 2023 @10:00AM (#38642056)
A lot of the comments rightly point out that you can manually download offline maps.

But why don’t these apps automatically cache a map at some coarse resolution?

Re:What happens when your AI girlfriend dies? on Tuesday November 28, 2023 @09:24AM (#38446011)
I personally don't, and I think it's because pets make demands of you. Walking a dog, making sure your cat is up to date on vaccines, feeding your fish, etc. These all require some level of sacrifice, which strikes me as inherently un-pathetic.

Which points the way to a new Turing test. Something like: "Can an AI credibly make a demand of the user?"

Wrote about some approches I’m taking here: https://www.nishantjha.org/essays/squeeze
Re:Ask HN: Why can't I get interviews or offers anymore? on Wednesday November 08, 2023 @09:54PM (#38200535)
I touched on some good approaches here [1]

But they’re aimed at the next tough job market, not this one, so they’re more long term.
