Re:Richard Stallman's Computer Setup on Saturday February 04, 2012 @03:51PM (#3552090)
I think you are confusing free as in beer, and free as in speech. No one says you can't sell GPL software.
Re:Arch Linux – "It is what you make it" on Friday September 16, 2011 @07:51PM (#3006765)
You still can't rollback without either having the package in your cache, or going to the source repo and grabbing the old PKGBUILD
Re:Voice search enabled on Google homepage (Chrome) on Wednesday June 22, 2011 @05:21AM (#2682380)
It's one of those web things, without a prompt it feels like any site ever could just recording through the mic and saving it.
Re:Hackers: Intern for the Summer, Get Paid for a Year on Monday April 20, 2009 @08:34PM (#571683)
I can't tell if this comment is serious or not.
Yes, which seems rather uninformative. Also, the article appears to be written by a twelve year old.
Re:Total Recall: The Woman Who Can't Forget on Tuesday April 14, 2009 @10:17AM (#561504)
Well the other problem was with clockwise... Couldn't do that either.
Re:Total Recall: The Woman Who Can't Forget on Tuesday April 14, 2009 @01:37AM (#561060)
I was like this for east and west when given north for the longest time. I would always ask my little brother which way east or west was.
Re:Urchin.js is going dark? No, it isn't. on Tuesday April 14, 2009 @01:33AM (#561055)
This was kinda obvious. Why would Google just cut off its clients randomly? They aren't that evil.
Re:Static presentations of sorting algorithms on Friday April 10, 2009 @01:10PM (#556337)
One thing I have always wondered is, how often do you really need to sort something? It always seems to me that the best way to go about getting sorted input is to constrain your inputs in such a way that you will always have a sorted array. Also, how often does one need something to be sorted. Not as much as we talk about sorting algorithms it seems.
Re:Ask HN: Feedback Please - TapInko.com on Monday April 06, 2009 @02:26PM (#549313)
It says I can't see go to the webpage because I'm not using a supported browser. I'm using Firefox 3 on linux. However, I can see the webpage if javascript is off, but not much is there.
Re:Rails framework upgrades with git-bisect on Saturday April 04, 2009 @02:49PM (#546540)
That's pretty cool; I always wondered how to use git bisect.
Nice 1 line patch... I'm surprised it could be fixed so easily.
Re:I was driven mad by the Chinese education system on Monday February 16, 2009 @12:49AM (#482723)
This is not true at all. I know plenty of parents who are well educated and place a lot of importance on grade. For example, my parents are both first generation doctors from India, and they place a lot of importance on grade and I don't think they are wrong for doing so.
Re:CEOs transferring assets into wife's names on Wednesday February 11, 2009 @01:15AM (#476635)
This actually kind of bring warmth to my heart, that CEO's trust their wives to hold their assets from them.
Re:How to be a better programmer in 6 minutes on Sunday February 08, 2009 @08:29PM (#472758)
Yeah, I fail at this too, but I use my console for coding. So, increasing the font size of my console hurts me when I'm using the shell, so I don't feel like increasing the font size. It also limits the amount of code you can see; really you should just cap your functions at some arbitrary length 25-50.
Re:How to be a better programmer in 6 minutes on Sunday February 08, 2009 @08:27PM (#472753)
Maybe he meant incrementally increase your coding abilities, you know, master a new keyword in 6 minutes, read the source code of an open source project in 6 minutes, run a static analysis tool in 6 minutes, ..., and write a compiler in 6 minutes.
Re:Five Safest Ways on How to Stop Hot Flashes on Thursday February 05, 2009 @12:08AM (#467127)
Yes, the older woman population of hacker news needs this information.
Re:Introduction to Statistical Learning Theory on Sunday February 01, 2009 @11:04PM (#461839)
I can't tell you how glad I was when, instead of a link to scribd, I got a link to a pdf when I clicked the topic.
Re:256 colors on the Linux terminal on Wednesday January 21, 2009 @06:48PM (#444057)
This would be nice, but most terminals only support 8 colors from what I've seen, and 8 colors should be enough for anyone!
This was a teacher?!
