Are we just going to forget that the feds went through Melania’s panty drawer during the raid over the documents?
It’s propublica, what did you expect. The Atlantic and New Yorker do a much better job, and their biases don’t seems to affect their overall factual discussion.
Thank you! I was literally on a site that did similar things like 30 mins ago, but I will definitely bookmark this! Much less fussy than the others.
I have a gift for you https://www.wsj.com/lifestyle/careers/labor-market-freeze-ph...

In the future, just know that typing archive.is/{paste article link} in your URL bar almost always removes paywalls. There’s also an extension that does this automatically for most news sites https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41294166

Ironically, Cloudflare Enterprise is apparently as expensive as—if not more—than Akamai.

Cloudflare also has this 5-10ms phantom latency that they’ve never been able to fix, and it definitely hurts them when compared to Fastly, CloudFront and the others, especially when we start talking about serverless functions… (https://www.fastly.com/blog/debunking-cloudflares-recent-per...)

Overall, I don’t imagine companies use Cloudflare because its solving some super niche issue, but it’s rather easy to slap on and may even reduce costs. I’ve used so many similar services and I can’t say that Cloudflare stood out in any way whatsoever. It felt super limited, and even the paid tiers don’t offer that many extra features.

To their credit, they are a very transparent company that has made significant contributions over the years to open source, and has arguably been one of my biggest sources of inspiration in general, but they’re are not the Apple of the CDN industry.

Edit: just a quick edit right after posting—I never really see Cloudflare in use directly by the top sites. They do exist, but it’s pretty rare, and even if you don’t believe me, I can always tell when a site uses Cloudflare due to its phantom latencies.

Some of the documents I found also contain prices from all sorts of vendors.

I have a strong reason to believe it’s not inflated, based on posts from their customers on the internet, and the fact that Akamai’s products on Azure and similar indicate similar prices.

To be fair, most of their customers are massive, so I doubt they’re paying that much, especially if they’ve been long-time Akamai customers with multi-year contracts.

Very, very fascinating.
I was just on the Github page a day ago, and now it's gone. Someone reuploaded it here https://github.com/bpc-clone/bypass-paywalls-chrome-clean but I can't gurantee the authenticity of it and it isn't working for me.

I repuloaded the zip to a repo on one of my Github accounts https://github.com/nikolqyy/bypass-paywalls-chrome/releases/...

Oracle Cloud offers 10TB free bandwidth per month and is part of the bandwidth alliance I think with Cloudflare.

Edgecast (Edgio) is free as far as I can tell, except you pay for support if you want it and some extra features.

Datapacket has unmetered bandwidth for example.

There are plenty of solutions, but they aren’t very well known because of the dominance AWS and others have.

Not to mention, it might be cheaper to just use direct connect with a cloud provider or just grab an ASN and host stuff in a local datacenter.

There’s always methamphetamine, dextroamphetamine and brand names for different amphetamines or drugs like methylphenidate and armodafinil, and then of course the specialty name drugs.
Anyone can by pseudoephedrine, but there’s a system that checks to make sure you haven’t exceeded your monthly limit, and if someone is talking about meth or makes a joke about meth while buying pseudoephedrine, it might raise a red flag, but generally pharmacies sell it to anyone since there’s really no workaround the the monthly limits.
Honestly, I understand why they’d be limiting Xanax, but limiting Adderall is a little over the top. Xanax is probably the most dangerous drug in a pharmacy besides opioids, but Adderall is harmless compared to Benzos and opioids.
Re:Is Bloomberg's website breaking the law? on Thursday March 23, 2023 @07:09PM (#35282790)
I figure it could be illegal depending on the situation since as far as I know, it's illegal to have bitcoin mining js modules that load into users browsers.

I know if I had that, I'd drop it and it would fall apart like a phone from 2008 lmao. It actually looks really cool and I will definitely consider buying one next time I buy a laptop. Thanks for the reccomendation!

Is Bloomberg's website breaking the law?

https://www.bloomberg.com/tosv2.htmlI got captchad on Bloomberg and Chrome started using 100% of my cpu. Just wanted to know if this is illegal because I have a 13900ks and I haven't optimized my mb settings so it overheated my computer. What a shitty tactic. Might just report it to ic3.govI'm half joking, but really, does anyone know about the legality of this, and does it behave the same way...

Knowing that this is one of the biggest sites in the world scares me enough. Now they'll do anything to stay #1. Scary stuff!

This is actually really impressive. The documentation site is insanely fast which is usually a sign that it's a well performing framework.

Ask HN: Which social media app has the best design in your opinion?

Which social media app do you think has the best design? This can include UX or UI design. Apparently most people don't pay attention to fonts, symbols and other stuff closely, but for those of us that do, which app speaks to you the most? This can really be any app, but preferably one of the more known social media apps. For me, I've used Twitter probably the most by far, so I might be biased....

If you’re implying that AFP, Reuters, WSJ, and Fox News spread disinformation on their sites, then it’s you who’s been brainwashed.
Facebook is not a real business. it’s just manipulated money. That’s why their stock fell by 50% in like 24 hours. Parler is a social media app. Truth is a social media app. Not a leftist organization that makes money by data harvesting and letting companies incite violence by letting them pay to promote shit. You’re comparing apples to broccoli. People want genuine places of discussions, not advertising companies.

Limelight officially acquires Edgecast, becomes Edg.io (Edgio)

So Limelight Networks (now officially Edgio) has acquired Yahoo's Edgecast and Layer0. All three seem have their own infrastructures. Layer0 uses Varnish, not too sure what Limelight uses and I'm almost entirely sure that Edgecast uses custom software for their infrastructure.Edg.io is alive and well, but how in the world are they going to merge all three different infrastructures together?...

That's actually wildly hilarious in a way. Pretty creative way of attacking businesses. Probably more creative than something I could come up with. Copyright is way too strict though. It's ridiculous that this is even possible, to an extent.
I still think the TikTok design has really bad effects in the real world. It doesn't seem sustainable. Facebook should move to be more like Twitter in terms of discussion.

I was on Facebook today and I saw at least 10 posts in my feed in about 10 minutes that had over 500k likes. I had no clue how many people actually used Facebook. Facebook profile pages are horribly designed. Facebook just needs a more simplified look to get its users back. They also need to stop acting like political hacks.

TikTok is only one form of social media, but there's Twitter and Snapchat which are all completely different apps and ideas. Facebook should continue to do what they're doing, because when TikTok format and fads die down, everyone will go back to Facebook. The only criticisms of Facebook in reviews are the design and censorship. Fix those 2 things and there you go. Back on top. TikTok is far too radical to be adopted by most Americans, so Facebook still has the upper hand.
