The rediscovery and investigation of the Plexus P/20 has been an amazing project in the retro community. Its great to hear that Adrian Black is offering up his restored version up to the Interim Computer Museum to make it available for people to get their hands on.

Honestly, if I received an email like this from the MD of a customer, I'd probably want to wash my hands of them as well

Owen used to organise the Manchester Linux User Group at the MCC as well, I fondly remember those early days when I was learning Linux. Looking back it was an amazing privilege to connect with some extremely knowledgeable people in the Linux ecosystem.
Re:Ask HN: Which RSS reader do you use? on Saturday January 18, 2025 @04:21AM (#42746997)
Self-hosted Miniflux, and ReadKit on my Apple devices to access it.

I've used Miniflux for a long time, and its content manipulation features allows you to work around some of the oddities of RSS feeds you come across.

Re:My experiences with Automattic: Part 3 on Thursday October 17, 2024 @07:48AM (#41868729)
The mention of the self-employed employees could be interesting to HRMC in the UK, if they are skirting around IR35 it could end up with them being handed a large tax bill.

Also their UK branch is called "MINISTRY OF AUTOMATTIC"... really.

In the past six months I've had four letters returned to me because they went through the sort/scanner upside down and used the sender address on the CN22 as the destination address. I'd put money on it being a failure of technology.
Re:D.C.'s ban on cashless businesses takes effect on Wednesday October 04, 2023 @03:52AM (#37762151)
'Fee-free' accounts existed way before this regulation. If you actually read the link it talk about fee-free in the sense of no charges for failed transactions.
Re:Retro Computer Museum – Leicester, UK on Wednesday May 17, 2023 @09:12AM (#35974766)
Also a general computer museum in the north-west (Leigh, Greater Manchester) as well:

https://www.nwcomputermuseum.org.uk/ - with quite a nice looking but frustrating website...

I had the (dumb) idea of putting an AirTag in the family car, with the idea of being able to get a rough idea of where it is parked without depending on the terrible manf provided app. Every time my partner would drive the car it would ping away for a good 2-3 minutes due to the safety notifications. We're all part of the same family account, I don't really understand why it isn't an option to just ignore it.
Re:Google Fi bricked my iPhone 11 Pro Max (2020) on Tuesday March 15, 2022 @05:36AM (#30683341)
I used Airalo, no hassle eSIM setup and roams onto AT&T and T-Mobile.

Can't wait until they rebrand Teams in a year or so and all these devices look out of date because of a logo.
Re:PfSense Is Closed Source on Tuesday January 26, 2021 @05:20AM (#25914223)
Honestly, with how the pfSense developers have kicked out about OPNSense in the past i'd expect it was a choice to not support easy migration.
Re:Cyberpunk 2077 Refunds on Friday December 18, 2020 @06:47PM (#25473528)
Strangely, I think Stadia is one of the more stable platforms for the game. I'm in a similar position, dumb AI when driving, the odd multiple dialog lines being smashed together, but overall its not too bad. 28 hours in and I've been mostly distracted by side quests.
Re:OpenSSH 8.4 on Monday September 28, 2020 @02:33AM (#24613592)
Nope, nistp521 is the correct name for the curve.
Re:tilde.town: A social network over SSH on Friday August 28, 2020 @06:38AM (#24303357)
I admin a smaller pubnix/tilde, for me I tie down email, inbound connections, some strict resource limits per user, and keep a close eye on anything running. I'm sure if I start getting more users it'll become more time consuming but with a decent logging and sensible security practices you could probably negate the vast majority of bad actors.
Nothing says "we're lying about the battery life" more than including a free battery case...
