I've heard the XPS13 has a nearly-15 usable screen size because of the tiny bevel, any owners care to verify?

Now you've taught me that the Glycemic Index is an illusion and that Doritos are high in micronutrient fortification. This is so informative.

Thanks for the heads up, since you've told me that all food is equal I'm going to switch my diet to only include Soda, Doritos and Hotpockets. I'm sure my body will adapt amazingly.

Siri can understand what you say. I'm not saying the person was right, but is it really far fetched? IIRC gmail already targets ads based on your email content (ie conversations).

Kogan charge your card a slightly lower random amount than the transaction total and ask you to verify the exact figure before they will fulfill the order. Simple and clever.

Most professionals have a financial safety net the working class do not. That is a huge psychological difference.

It is exactly this kind of bigotry that forces the KFE scene underground.

Some people enjoy very specific genres. Do you really want your family and workplace to know you rather enjoy watching Klingons fellate Ewoks?

Hey mythrwy are you pregnant, you're looking a lot bigger? And also you should dump your partner because they conform to mainstream social standards, total red flag. Oh and you're raising your kids wrong.

Hey why are you offended? I was trying to help! You could be gracious about it.

Re:Warning: 2016 MacBook Pro is not compatible with Linux on Thursday November 10, 2016 @09:22PM (#12926893)
You're seriously suggesting that I should theme OSX manually using a hex editor?

Until the new equivalent of Flavours[1] is available, theming OSX is dead in the water.

Homebrew is dope, but it's still a bolted-on package manager. I also hate hate hate that Apple have removed the ability to theme the OSX UI (RIP Flavours). If I'm going to stare at my dev screen all day it should look how I want it to.

I'd read this more as a position and statement of intent than a concrete plan. The devil will be in the spirit of the execution, not the letter.

Re:Why Twitter Must Be Saved on Wednesday November 09, 2016 @05:52PM (#12915621)
HN is neither twitter nor a blog.
> I hope you still understood what I meant

It wouldn't be HN without autistically pedantic nits on scope and definition that add nothing of value to the discourse.

Pleasant side-effects include forcing a clear cogent point by eschewing excess verbiage. I personally find the 140 limit a useful antidote to the waffling academia trained me to employ in my writing.
> management will probably just call your bluff.

You don't need some enormous revenue or productivity win on the board to ask for a raise (although it helps). It just needs to be less hassle for them to pay you a raise than to replace you. In most cases it's really that simple.

Being in that situation is so satisfying.

Boss: HR won't give me the money for your raise.
Employee: I quit. I've been offered more money elsewhere.
Boss: No wait actually I can get that extra money
  Employee: Too late, kthxbai

Twitter is blocked in China.

e: my bad, TFA also uses these exact words.

Re:Foolish and Backward Nation (2012) on Sunday October 30, 2016 @09:08PM (#12833577)
Chinese citizens veil government criticism using innuendo ranging from obvious to subtle as a means to avoid censorship etc. Westerners often miss this subtext. The innuendo in TFA is so blunt that the translation is believable.

While the military-industrial complex is a thing, most armed conflict can be abstracted as resource exploitation or contention expressed as territorialism. Religion and ideology is just a convenient cassus belli.

As the Lesser Bonapartes podcast puts it, "The in-group always has a problem with... those people."

Ape troupes fight all the time. Chimps genocide monkeys. Human war is just scale.

>I often hear this sentiment that new languages and frameworks du jour pop up every week, and that past an age a fellow just wants to learn a single reliable stack and collect a weekly paycheck.

TFA clearly and repeatedly states the author learns new tools and frequently employs them for client work. The point of the article is that boring/mature stacks can offer a better ROI for in-house products.

"Please, he prayed, now -

Is that an argument in favor of China's relentless infrastructure spending?
