Facebook at 78 billion. Money for nothing and your chips for free.

Yes right, "chips", as casino chips that you can play.Sorry I don't want to be a game spoiler but:When valuations run high, you can see the balloon coming. I don't say that Net 2.0 is the balloon. But I can see a few balloons. So you want to place your bets for Facebook. Ok. Due credit for a game changer.Huge Member community? I agree. But let's face it 500 million active ain't not.And what...

Re:Techcrunch articles about YC backed startups on Tuesday March 22, 2011 @03:10PM (#2355916)
Nearix, there is no conspiracy here. By the way I don't have any connection to YC whatsoever. HN is not your normal tech news site. You and I, although not related to HN, have the chance to address an issue. There is no "editor".

However as already mentioned by other users, it is normal for people that are closer to YC, to cause a viral effect for people they know.

I suppose that what we have to consider(as general users of this site), is if we get valuable information from this site. I have been reading HN for about 2 years and I believe, it has been a good source of information. As all sources of information you have to consider the articles that are more relevant to you. Being "top" ranked in HN will not make your startup/application better if it doesn't benefit the user.

Re:How Lean Startup Forced Me To Leave My Country on Monday March 21, 2011 @07:01PM (#2352053)
I believe Thanasis gives a good insight of his efforts to find the right path. Great article. As in most situations there is no "right" path.

For people asking on what is the big difference to do something outside a major innovation hub, this is something been discussed so many times. In fact this question is self-contradictory, because the guy that wrote it, reads HN a SF news incubator, which in fact started off from another city and moved to SF! They should have an idea why they did that. In fact they explained how beneficial this move was.

Now off course there are other hubs of innovation, but everyone has his own reasons for deciding.

Re:Did YC pay our site a visit? on Wednesday March 02, 2011 @02:45PM (#2280931)
If you read the general guideline about using hacker news, it says that if you want to ask a question about YC you have to email them and not post here.

Besides it is not very polite to post an IP, either it is from YC or not.

DotCom bubble? Blinded by fear.

I am following a link from member boh to : A return to Stupidland: Ten years after the dotcom boom (independent.co.uk)It's a nice personal account of appreciating lessons from the past. I believe PG has written that there is no bubble. I have to agree on that statement. The dotcom bubble had totally different characteristics from today's upward shift. One can easily understand this difference...

Re:How to read Hacker News – what mistake I made for 2 years on Monday February 28, 2011 @01:27AM (#2270337)
Maybe it would be a good thing for Hacker News to explain this little detail to new readers of the list. I had to post an article first, to really check how post ranking works.

I am not saying that some articles do not deserve to have a better chance of reading, relevant to popularity. Instead I believe it would be valuable to Hacker News to have more informed readers. Otherwise there is a big chance that the "popularity" ranking can be mishandled for a number reasons, from people trying to have a "top" posting.

How to read Hacker News – what mistake I made for 2 years

I am reading Hacker News for the last 2 years. It's been a really good source of information relevant to tech and startups, which I am interested. Recently I became a member to ask a question. Not much feedback came back except from some kind advice from PG.My next submission involved an analysis about the future of YC, which got only one feedback.>> Who are you?Quite a way to handle an...

A reader of the list.

Ask HN: Call for action. All welcome to Vote – What is the future of YC?

Your comments are welcomed, but if you don t have much time for that, a feedback of the form a,b,c to the question:YC: From Incubator to a) Biz Franchise? b) VC ? c) Biz practical Education ?'is going to help get a sense of how the YC change affects its culture.-------------------------OK before starting, I want to clarify that I really like and respect what PG and his team does with YC.What...

YC: From Incubator to a) Biz Franchise? b) VC? c) Biz practical Education?'

OK before starting, I want to clarify that I really like and respect what PG and his team does with YC.What I would like to mention is that after the latest development of funding every YC team (http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/11_10/b4218038672660.htm), YC has changed the business model that is following. I do not know if this is planned change or a result of trust and appreciation...

Oops. Just realized who pg is. That's not what I do though. I can explain but I will have to take it offline. Thanks anyway.

I made a round of 20 good firm inquiries and no one defers. It is difficult to get an intro when you are from another country, although I have a potential patent to go along my business plan. Thank you for the feedback! I am posting first time, although I read HN almost daily and I didn't realize how difficult it is to get some traction on a question!

StartUp lawyers in San Francisco?

Do you know of any StartUp friendly Law Firm in San Francisco. I am talking about Firms that do not charge 700-1000$/hour. I would appreciate feedback from people that you have worked with.
