Re:Apple introduces the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @10:24AM (#50259871)
A 15" MacBook Air with a 120Hz OLED would be perfect IMO.
Just as a counter-point, I have in fact said this since I first installed it in 2004.
Re:The Escalation of War in Ethiopia on Saturday October 03, 2026 @10:04AM (#49944364)
Ethiopia was never colonized.
I'll gladly sell my soul first thing every morning in exchange for a laptop that lasts longer than two hours on battery, wifi/audio/webcam work after waking from sleep, and not needing to learn a complexity fractal of CLI commands to do basic things.

> I don't get how folks who hyperventilate about Trump being a threat to democracy can look at stuff like this and cheer.

It really stretches my imagination to the limit to see how your suspicion carries this move all the way to being comparable to what Trump has been doing.

AdGuard as well.

I use Dark Reader on Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, but I've found Noir to be better on Safari.
Re:iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 on Monday September 14, 2026 @03:58PM (#49703037)
Interesting. Bugs on mine were from using core apps, IIRC. I wonder if bugs manifest on some iPhone hardware versions? Or maybe even which iOS version the phone was upgrade from?
Re:iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 on Monday September 14, 2026 @03:04PM (#49702216)
Are you exaggerating? I tried the latest beta about a month ago and experienced multiple bugs within half an hour. Had to downgrade back to 26.

I too feel the keyboard is broken but I haven't identified exactly what is broken about it.
*Privatized profit. The ~210mil € of public funding wasn't private. It is now I guess, lol.

EDIT: Title has been updated so my comment seems out of context.

Are the Rust devs not expanding the surface area of safe Rust over time? Just curious.

Re:Go 1.27 on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @03:23PM (#49366037)
Nice additions to go.

I like to imagine that one day we'll have a language that launched with all the features languages eventually add. The whole ecosystem of packages would be built on them instead of a legacy of more primitive language feature sets.

My most recent manager was exactly like this.
Re:Solid and Clean Code never felt solid or clean to me on Wednesday July 01, 2026 @04:44PM (#48752852)
I fully agree.

I think a major meta-problem with patterns is that the straight-forward ones get written about the most, and/or read about the most. Now we have tons of devs out there who pledge allegiance to some subset of whatever patterns they've come across. I wonder if that prevents/delays pattern transcendence to see the nuance.

Are you asking what A) the countries that meddle with US elections, and B) their relationship to the US, has to do with Israel, on this comment thread?
Does the UK or Japan engage in election meddling in the US?
Are North Korea and Russia "allies" of the US?
Re:Just Fucking Use Go on Monday May 25, 2026 @08:57PM (#48273747)
Can you point me to a language that encodes the handling of errors in a less verbose way than C++/Java/C# exception handling?
Re:Just Fucking Use Go on Sunday May 10, 2026 @02:27PM (#48086465)
You're right about recover being in 1.0 of golang.

I definitely fully understand the trade-offs of returning result/error unions vs handling thrown exceptions. Exception handling is clearly superior to me. That said, the typical performance complaints made against the most common implementations of exceptions are valid.

Re:Just Fucking Use Go on Friday May 08, 2026 @08:41PM (#48070562)
The anti-exception mind virus of the 2010s did a lot of damage. Go designers finally caved and added panic & recover, but jeez, the damage was done. The whole ecosystem has exception derangement syndrome.
Re:Just Fucking Use Go on Friday May 08, 2026 @01:04PM (#48065871)
The convention of explicit error handling after every method call is absolutely bonkers to me. I would never use it for anything serious.
AFAIK this is called sleep consolidation.
Re:Your Terminal Is Burning Battery Like It's Mining Bitcoin on Wednesday April 29, 2026 @03:42AM (#47945262)
For the few times a month I need to have two windows/panes visible at the same time, I take five seconds positioning and sizing them then move on.
Same. Need multiple terminals visible at once? New window. Need a few separate sessions? New tab(s).

All the bells and whistles people have shown me over the years... it never even gets close to making me think "oh yea, that's better than basic tab/window management and the terminal app that comes with my OS".
