There used to be one at the World Trade Center. Before 9/11.
Re:Thunderbird's Desktop Calendar Visual Redesign on Sunday August 16, 2026 @06:07PM (#49324212)
Many calendar apps use roundrects for items which helps for multi-day appointments/events because you can tell which is the start/left edge of the item and which is the end/right edge of the item.

I'm not sure what's displayed if the app shows the middle portion of an event that extends for more than one week - maybe a rectangle, if the rounded corners signify the beginning/ending of an event.

Nor any visible control to quickly take you to "Today".

People who use calendars for work-related purposes typically want work-week focused views.

None of this is new. Which speaks to the people developing/designing this. (Or maybe they have incorporated this but the handful of screenshots aren't exposing them).

They aren't dogfooding this - or if they are - they aren't the power users - people whose typical day have more appointments scheduled than free time.

They need to seek out the power users so their design doesn't preclude use-cases (or at least make them very awkward).

Here's a freebie - for monthly view - the day that is highlighted should get a detailed day view as a sidebar.

You'd still need a Wordstar-like app and a VisiCalc-like app (pref. Lotus 123-like).

VGA adapter means you have to wait until 1987 to run this, otherwise you'd deal with CGA's non-square pixels. EGA support would only be possible in Oct 1984.

the defendant hired a private lawyer, Peter Planetta, who resigned from the Nova Scotia Barrister's Society a few months after the defendant was sentenced.

from https://www.saltwire.com/nova-scotia/halifax/appeal-court-qu... :

Klayme’s trial counsel was Peter Planetta, who no longer practises law.
A quick search shows that his trial lawyer/counsel resigned from the bar several months after the defendant was sentenced in the first trial.

[edit] Since his old lawyer wasn't practicing anymore, Klayme got a new lawyer who discovered the missing underscore.

Update from https://www.diamondleague.com/josh-kerr-breaks-mile-world-re...

...Kerr then hit 1500m in 3:27.62 – faster than his own British record for the distance – and the world record looked within reach.
So 8 out of 10 runners in the race set PBs.

Dr Kyle works out the precise dietary requirements to support my training while my performance chef Jameel Austin does the shopping and makes the meals to ensure I implement that. Everything I put into my body is cooked by Jameel. He also works in a restaurant as a pastry chef – that’s not a food on my menu – but he comes to our house every Monday and Thursday to prepare the meals.

We also do an eight-day coffee fast before races. A coffee about three hours before the race should then have more impact. Regular blood-work informs whether any supplements are recommended by Dr Kyle. Supplements that I might have at different times of the year include vitamin D, omega-3 or beta-alanine.

Like most runners now in almost every distance and endurance sport, I will also take sodium bicarbonate before a race, but I never bother in training. Sodium bicarbonate is essentially baking soda and has long been known to buffer hydrogen ions and thus delay muscle fatigue. Its usage, however, has increased over recent years after it was produced in a gel that helps to bypass the gut and thus reduce the risk of gastro issues.

[Josh Kerr's coach, Danny] Mackey was set to have a meeting with representatives from Wavelight on Tuesday to discuss the pace. He said they have yet to lock in specific splits, but Kerr told LetsRun.com in April that “an even split or a slightly negative split, I think, is the way to do it.”

3:43.13 mile pace is 55.45 per 400, which would mean 1:50.90 at 800 if they were to go for even splits.

Mackey says he hopes the pace is pretty even and “hopefully he’s got something left in the end.”
They went through 800m in 1:51.1 according to another comment in this post.
from https://www.letsrun.com/news/2026/07/chasing-342-inside-josh...

In terms of actual personal bests, Kerr’s fastest mile is the 3:45.34 he ran to win at Prefontaine in 2024. But his 1500 personal best of 3:27.79, which he ran in the Olympic final two months later, is the superior performance.
His PR for 1500m is 3:27.79 and he ran 3:27.7 for 1500m today and then ran another 109+ metres.

The NY Times article about Target marketing to expectant mothers - see https://web.archive.org/web/20120216181457/http://www.nytime...

“My daughter got this in the mail!” he said. “She’s still in high school, and you’re sending her coupons for baby clothes and cribs? Are you trying to encourage her to get pregnant?”

The manager didn’t have any idea what the man was talking about. He looked at the mailer. Sure enough, it was addressed to the man’s daughter and contained advertisements for maternity clothing, nursery furniture and pictures of smiling infants. The manager apologized and then called a few days later to apologize again.

On the phone, though, the father was somewhat abashed. “I had a talk with my daughter,” he said. “It turns out there’s been some activities in my house I haven’t been completely aware of. She’s due in August. I owe you an apology.”
Even though they tried to be subtle about marketing pregnancy-related products to new mothers, they didn't go far enough.

Perhaps a graphic, on the front page, above the fold, pointing to pregnancy-related sales on interior pages of the flyer. Non pregnancy-related sales should dominate the front page.

Under the initiative, “For any interests that confer voting or other direct control rights, the percentage of the business entity owned by the taxpayer shall be presumed to be not less than the taxpayer’s percentage of the overall voting or other direct control rights.”

...Together, for instance, Larry Page and Sergey Brin own about 11.3 percent of Alphabet (Google) but control 52.3 percent of voting rights. Similarly, Mark Zuckerberg owns about 13.6 percent of Meta but has 61.0 percent voting control.
For specific cases, you'd convert your memory allocator - hopefully you could reduce the need to just certain mem allocs - and write-protect (aka read-only memory) those mem allocs except for the situations where your code is purposely writing to those areas of memory.

Yes, it'll be slow and use p lots of memory pages, unless you can reduce the mem allocs to a certain small set of allocs. And you'll have to have code to write-enable/write-disable those mem allocs. But if it catches the culprit writing bytes where they shouldn't, it'll be worth it.

The one time I did this for a buffer passed to a HW device, I could prove that the hardware was doing DMA-writes where it shouldn't. Had to bring a HW logic analyzer to verify.
