I wish I hadn't listened to that ATC recording. Read the transcript instead, trust me on this one.

I've never met human employees with less latitude to actually help me

"oh yeah that's wrong, sorry it looks like our website is broken but there's nothing I can do"

Re:Gemini 4 Carbon on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @09:07PM (#50283198)
I think it's because the model's not ready but earnings was today...
Re:GPT-6.1 Terra on Monday October 26, 2026 @05:12PM (#50251038)
What would you want to see instead? Not sure about you but my needs are specific enough that I don't think OAI has evals for them, and I wouldn't want to give them that data even if they wanted to run it for me.

iunno about that boss...

Re:AI is mass decompiling games. That's both awesome and scary on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @05:25PM (#50095556)
I don't see a distribution channel for this outside of torrents or sketchy download websites. The assets and IP are still copyrighted even if you decompiled the code. Surely Valve would just not allow these copies/clones? That GTA 5 browser thing was gone in like 2 hours.
Re:AI is mass decompiling games. That's both awesome and scary on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @12:34PM (#50090481)
People have always been able to steal PC games. There's an entire genre (keygen chiptunes) of music that came from it. I guess this will make it easier to do so, but why do we think suddenly nobody will buy games anymore? I can buy that this might hurt the industry but "the end of AAA gaming" seems extreme?
Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @07:19PM (#50080317)
Mine does exactly this and I pay for Pro too
Re:Claude Haiku 5.5 on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @06:05PM (#49999411)
Isn't the point of this release that it's comparable?

AAI Index // Input // Output

Haiku 5.5: 43 // $0.10 // $0.50

Mimo 2.6 Pro: 46 // $0.43 // $0.87

Mimo 2.6 Flash: 38 // $0.10 // $0.28

Seems competitive to me? Plus then I don't have to manage multiple providers

I pay for Pro and the newest model I have access for is still 3.6 Flash, which was released in July. I never got access to 3.7 and still don't have 3.8. Clearly this product is an afterthought, since I've heard many people have the same models available. Can you imagine if a bunch of the people who paid for ChatGPT still only had access to 5.5, with no communications from OpenAI about it?
Re:Sites in ChatGPT on Friday October 02, 2026 @01:31PM (#49936191)
The "intelligence API" layer seems like a pretty rough business to be in. The smarter the models the more they're commodities (since they can use any harness or scaffolding) resulting in a race to the bottom on pricing. And then each new better model requires double the cost of the previous one.

I'm surprised there's not a bigger push into better and useful memory, since that would result in actual lock-in.

Re:Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @03:43PM (#49717832)
Yeah still on 3.6 here too, this is like the 4th or 5th model Google has announced since they last gave me access to the latest. And I pay for pro too!
Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @06:22PM (#49635377)
you can connect those things though right? or you want a mouse and keyboard attached by default like a tiny laptop?
Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @05:10PM (#49634381)
do you not consider your phone a "useful computer"?
Re:Gemini 3.8 Flash on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @02:17PM (#49540217)
Meanwhile I pay for Pro and still don't have access to 3.7?
Re:Dyson CameraJet electric toothbrush on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @11:49PM (#49531492)
my dentist wants me coming quarterly
It would be nice to have the README be a little more human written for a project where you actually want people to adopt it
Re:Gemini 3.7 Flash on Thursday August 13, 2026 @05:25PM (#49292062)
I assume so when they release Flash 3.8 or 4.0 or whatever they can claim it's not a price increase?
Agreed I want an IDE but only architecture. I suspect it’ll get superseded though eventually too.
Is your point that such historical prices only occur when the shit is hitting the fan? Because the first time oil ever went above $100 was at the start of the 2008 financial crisis...

Re:Half-Life 2 running natively on HaikuOS on Friday July 24, 2026 @12:40PM (#49038180)
I love it, this is OG hacker news
Is there something specifically with Kimi that's better here? As far as I know Kimi pricing is about the same as Sonnet 5 -- what happens if you use that model and Fable instead? Or Grok 4.5 which is even cheaper?
Re:Australia is offering free daytime electricity on Tuesday July 14, 2026 @01:42AM (#48902702)
A 24 kWh cap per day seems very reasonable. Drawing 8 kW is quite a lot.
Re:Nintendo has raised its employees base salary by 10% on Wednesday July 01, 2026 @04:34PM (#48752740)
why?
Re:Previewing GPT‑5.6 Sol: a next-generation model on Friday June 26, 2026 @04:52PM (#48691826)
Is that the correct comparison? Fable is twice the price
Re:GTA 6 will cost $80 on Wednesday June 24, 2026 @11:50AM (#48661728)
Yeah if it has the amount of content people are expecting I'd say it'll be well worth 80 bucks
