Ask HN: Is Apple Pay secure post-password?

It strikes me as odd that Apple Pay has no confirmation prompt. Once I input my pass-code, my wallet immediately processes the nearest transaction without confirmation. Anybody within NFC range could generate a transaction that my device would complete.Sure, if this happens you can contact Apple, who will pass this off to GS's fraud department to remedy, but this feels like a blatant oversight...

Ask HN: Best teacher you ever had? Why?

Personally, I have a few.Professor in college who ran my honors program. Awesome guy, approachable and laid back. He didn't teach to a textbook; everything was immersive. Instead of reading about Tesla, we visited the factory, for instance.AP English teacher in HS. Kind lady that took no prisoners. Made for a funny combination. She was sharp as a whip and would call you out if your writing...

I used Clerky in 2016. I found them pleasant and easy to work with. Took the time to answer all of my questions. Prices quite reasonable. Unfortunately, this data point is a bit out of date.

I regularly work with companies that use all of the above. All seem to produce decent documents. You can also compare their sample documents against ones from CooleyGo [1] and the like.

There are things you may desire as a founder that won't necessarily come standard in template docs from Clerky/Stripe/Gusto. Single-trigger acceleration [2] is the obvious example I can think of right now but I'm sure there are others.

Also, be sure to do your 83(b) election ASAP -- definitely within 30 days of incorporation. [3]

(Not a Cooley shill - they just produce good content.)

Yes, that is high. Georgia Tech offers an Online M.S. in Computer Science for about $7K USD. [1] Graduates are also conferred the same exact degree as on-campus students. Anecdotally, current and former students seem to like this program. (Source: r/OMSCS, old HN threads.)

University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign also offers an Online Master of Computer Science. This one costs $21,440. [2]

I haven't gone through either program so I can't personally vouch for quality. However, as an outside observer, GA Tech in particular seems to be high relative to the dollar cost.

If you wish to earn an online degree in computer science for credentialing purposes, the 'prestige' conferred by Imperial seems to be much more expensive, relatively, than that earned from GATech or UIUC. [3]

Re: #3: The order of these rankings seems incorrect to me but they should provide directional guidance. TL;DR: GATech #17, Imperial #36, UIUC #57.

USA rankings are: UIUC #5, GATech #8 -- see here: https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-science-sch....

This is an excellent point. Certainly, China seems to be managing fine without many Panamax ports

Short-term demand seems to be shifting to Vietnam. This seems to have enabled a 'wait and see' approach re: China + tariffs. However, I'd question if Vietnam has enough long-term manufacturing capacity [1] [2] [3] to sustain the short-term advantage it seems to be currently enjoying.

Today, China has 16 of the world's 50 busiest ports, including Shenzhen at #3 (all as measured by 2018 TEU volume). [4] However, this is less indicative of capacity than it is of current demand / throughput.

Both countries could benefit from building more deep-water ports. China currently has two Panamax ports, with a third on the way. Vietnam has none and is building its first. The U.S., by comparison, has 42 by my count. [5]

Separately, there's a great Wired documentary on Shenzhen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGJ5cZnoodY.

Ask HN: Will the next Berlin Wall be digital?

It's been 23 years since China announced its intention to launch a national Intranet. [1] In 2019, Russia publicly initiated plans to follow suit. [2] [3] [4]Where do we go from here? Is the world's next Berlin Wall destined to be digital?Consider the following excerpts from a Nov. 2019 speech given by Ian Bremmer [5]:"[The global market for data and information] is breaking in two. It is no...
