Previously I was sure of CS.Though now I have realised a big part of my interest is mixing programming/content with internet marketing/affiliate marketing, which I am doing well with so far.Would a CS+some kind of marketing be a good idea? Re:99 Days at a Startup on Wednesday February 09, 2011 @02:21AM (#2196729)
This does seem partially misguided - Tim Ferriss himself does say that he spends a lot more than 4 hours a week on projects, because he doesn't see that as work, instead they are projects he chooses to do because he enjoys them (similar to the author of this post).

Ask San Franciscans: Is it worth taking a 2 week holiday to SF?

Sorry for the brief title.I live in Australia and am considering Uni in the SF region.Currently trying to decide if it is worth taking a 2 week trip to SF to help my decisions regarding university. If I go, what should I do? Can I get a feel for Unis like UC Berkeley and Stanford? Can I get a feel for the 'startup culture' and maybe even check out a startup? Can I get a feel for living in the...

Would definitely consider staying for longer, possibly even the whole 2 weeks - just depends on what is recommended.

Ask HN: Flying all the way to CA & the USA, what to see?

Possibly will be coming over around next July for about 2 weeks.Purpose of the trip is to check out some Unis in the USA for me, but will also be a holiday for my family -> 5 of us including me, with a 10 y/o girl, 15 y/o boy and me at 17.Interests:- would love to be able to see whether I would like it if I lived here/went to uni in the US (as opposed to Australia) -> so getting a feel...

Re:Ask HN: Emacs starter kit? on Wednesday December 15, 2010 @08:25PM (#2010717)
Thanks for that, I used org-mode previously so went with this one. Can you briefly explain the literate org-mode addon and your init.org? Thanks

Ask HN: Learning to code while out and about? (on an iPhone)

When I am out and about and I have some idle time, how could I use this to further my learning in python, html, css, javascript, sql, ruby, rails, etc?Any apps or guides done specifically for this? The problem with just reading a programming ebook is that it generally requires writing out the code, so I have to bookmark pages and go back to those when at a computer, which doesn't work so well,...

Ask HN: How to force myself to learn emacs?

Any suggestions welcomed, but what I was thinking was...Is there some module or extension that prevents me or notifies me whenever i do something that could be done easier with a shortcut? E.g. if i use the arrow keys, it stops me until i use c-b/c-f/c-p/c-n? If I go to a new line and press tab, it undoes it newline and tells me to use c-j, etc.It would be fantastic if there was one.

Ask HN: Convincing teacher on Python vs VB.net [an update]

Thanks a ton for the responses in the other thread (http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1885594).I have now found out that the main reason he would rather do VB.net is because he isn't sure that it Python is easy to use databases with (SQL I'm guessing).Being a non-programmer currently, I am not really sure, but I would assume that it is just as easy to interact with SQL through Python compared...
