When I quit the app, why is it still running in the background?
I spent way too much time doing fancy infographic-style stuff for a video about the 4th book in the Wheel of Time :
https://youtu.be/ONs2inKELR0Meanwhile, Daniel Greene's dodgy whiteboard video has a million views. Don't mind me as I eat these sour grapes...
The term Page-Turner is often misapplied. I rarely find any books genuine page-turners.
The Cuckoo's Egg is the exception. Such a fantastically well-written book! Thanks Cliff!
Probably it's just the same dopamine hits that make things like watching the Windows 98 Defragger soothing.
The Apple IIGS version was great!
Another idea for you - search for "booktube" on youtube. Plenty of recommendations!
https://app.auctionsieve.com/I've converted my 23 year old Java desktop app to a website.
It's an app to make searching eBay an actual joy. Perform a search, then highlight text to trash or group that term. Then perform the search again tomorrow and it will hide all the stuff you've already seen.
I hate that fade-in stuff. Basically just close any page that does it.
There must be some law about articles proclaiming X is dead. Does anyone know of one? Something along the lines of "Any article declaring X is dead is always wrong and just trying to sell you something"
Dumbest article I've read in a while.
I think the main thing is, these are all green fields projects. (Note original author talking about executing ideas for projects.)
I mean no disrespect by this but when I saw the headline on HN I immediately thought it was about Scott Adams the text adventure guy. And then I started watching the video and was a bit confused at first before it all clicked.
Here's how AI coding has helped me : to beat procrastination.
Often while trying to fall asleep, I'll be thinking something like "I need my app to do such and such".
The next day, instead of forcing myself to start coding, I can literally say to Intelij Junie (using Claude), exactly that: "I need my app to do such and such". I'm often pleasantly surprised by the outcome. And if there's anything that needs to be tweaked, I'm now in the mode of critiquing and editing.
The Swallows and Amazons series is wonderful! Highly recommended.
Watch hours are literally how long someone watches.
So if you watch a 2 hour video at 2x, it counts as 1 hour.
Thanks!
Fair warning to any others: It's mostly fantasy and sci-fi with the occasional tech book thrown in
I'm probably in a minority here. When I read Skyfall-GS, I immediately thought it was some new Apple IIGS game!
My 2021 16" M1 Max is at 85% battery - which is still totally fine for me.
I should also point out - if you download the current version, you should immediately apply the update that will pop up. And even then, you're results may be flakey.
About to start converting this 22 year old Java Swing desktop app to a web app :
http://www.auctionsieve.com/(It's a frontend to make searching eBay actually pleasant)

This site is blocked by Telstra in Australia for supposedly having malicious content!
Unfortunately in practice I've found it sounds not great.
