They’re designing custom silicon and solving millennium problems, maybe some of this code is in support of that.

Can’t roll out fusion powered data centers in 2030 without a simulation engine.

On Linux I have to kill and restart the app after my laptop goes to sleep because the text box disappears and I can’t continue the conversation.

Definitely not if you live or work in the area and will leave your car there for 8+ hours.

Maybe not if you have an appointment and will be there for an hour.

If you’re there for 15 minutes, open season.

How else would you Uber Eats your picnic?

For intelligentsia, such as they are, not to foment panic that might escalate to civil unrest.

I'm gonna credit George RR Martin with flipping Arya in the mid '90s

It’s basically Windows at that point!

Well, I think the argument is that the average person gets safer and happier when you stop letting dorks scam their way out of 12 hour shifts the hospital / factory

Thankfully GPT-Sol is pretty cavalier with academic paper IP.

Sci-hub doesn't work anymore but I can at least ask GPT what a paper says

Wait, what?

This line is certainly eyebrow-raising to the educated layman.

Apparently it means that anthropic is leasing a Google data center whose constituent servers draw 1.5 GW of power running representative workloads.

Maybe just do something bloodthirsty and populist like bail out the company and execute the leadership.
Because a bunch of people become homeless, commit suicide, and otherwise suffer.

Feel free to run for office on a "periodic culling" platform, though

Gig worker goes to Point A, receives a package, and brings it to Point B?

They seem like near-identical businesses to me.

An actual generation scheme would probably do something with the potential difference prior to dielectric breakdown actually occurring, at any rate.
Yeah, I mean it's sort of galling.

However, if they're at parity then the incentive is to just squeeze your assets for as much income as possible until you run their value into the ground. Which seems like a pressure for business owners / shareholders to be even more short-sighted than they already are.

Which is also my objection to a wealth tax actually (incentive to tank paper value of all holdings).

IDK. Taxation is sort of a blunt instrument and seems woefully inefficient compared to nationalizing assets on a case-by-case basis.

Are you referring to Mein Kampf?
They're currently a replacement for dividends because dividends are less tax-efficient than stock buybacks.

I struggle with the same initial impression as you, and have reached an uneasy peace with the status quo by telling myself that the stock price is about the amount of dividends the company could issue in a dividend-friendlier tax environment, once its growth plateaus and it goes into cash-cow mode.

Well. At least I can ask an LLM about the contents of papers I can't access!
Re:AI promised less work. I've never worked more on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @01:36PM (#50262769)
Wouldn't land capable of sustaining an off-grid independent community be impossible to acquire (or retain) in this scenario?
Re:AI promised less work. I've never worked more on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @01:32PM (#50262689)
Taxation is probably a dead end, vs actually nationalizing and re-tasking relevant assets on a case-by-case basis.

The position is weaker in the sense that an effective SWE union probably has to span national boundaries, and will likely be a short-term loss for SWEs in high-cost geographies.

The one who fires 90 engineers, just to see how things go with the 10, and then scales back up with cheaper off-shore talent if they can't keep up with demand.
Re:Anthropic S-1 on Monday October 26, 2026 @10:53PM (#50254199)
Because (a) it prints money so why not and (b) the model actually has some capability it doesn't want anyone else to be able to access.

I think GP's thesis is that selling only to the US government would preserve their moat by preventing distillation.

I guess it depends on how efficiently that verification can be produced as a byproduct of building an optimal hunter-killer drone, or training the type of model that builds an optimal hunter-killer drone
