Re:Go Piss, Girl: The plight of the public potty on Sunday October 18, 2026 @05:32AM (#50139456)
Japan blew my mind. You're never more than 5 minutes walk away from a free public restroom in any city or town I visited. They were always clean and supplied.

They show up on Maps apps and have reviews. I remember walking a few minutes more once, in Osaka, to try one that had excellent reviews (it was a fun and original design).

In some more rural areas these became squat potties with no toilet paper, so carry a pack of tissues with you.

>some statements condemning the attack

Netanyahu's line today is that Arabs and leftist activists are provoking Jewish settler attacks and/or staging the violence.

The Shia from South Lebanon still remember the seven Shia villages in Palestine that were ethnically cleansed by Zionist forces in 1948. [1]

It's still a major propaganda point for Hezbollah.

Reminder that the US administration is on a campaign to dismantle the ICC for echoing similar findings to this Nobel Prize winner in her role at UNHRC [1].

I'm extremely grateful to, and humbled by, these people continuing their brave work knowing they will face the full wrath of the US and Israel govs and their campaigns to dismantle accountability for the worst crimes.

I thought this was how I felt about South Park as well, but after switching off for several years I went back and watched the recent seasons and honestly, they still got it.
Re:Unified Arabic on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @07:45AM (#49608974)
Native Arabic speakers don't speak anything resembling Quranic Arabic though. And modern written Arabic is also very different from Quranic Arabic, to the point native speakers need training to understand the Quran.

I think what you mean is that they believe the Quran itself is literary perfection and sent by God through the last prophet, and that is indeed the belief.

But Arabs neither speak nor write like the Quran, and to the best of my knowledge they are well aware that their written and spoken languages have evolved through the centuries (as evidenced by the many Arabic dialects).

Re:Unified Arabic on Monday September 07, 2026 @04:18PM (#49602554)
>Arabic speakers [...] have explicit statement from God that Arabic is a holy language sent by God as the most perfect language PERIOD

This is wrong and I couldn't find a serious source stating anything like it. There's nothing in the Muslim faith that suggests the Arabic language itself is holy or sent by God.

The whole post reads a bit like a rant against Arabs suggesting their background precludes adaptation or something of the sorts.

And the 40% of American Jews who believe Israel is a genocidal state [1]?

Are they motivated by bipartisan Jew hatred as well?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/10/06/jewish-am... [1]

As someone leaning left with big disagreements with the US right atm, I think the right in America would feel the same way if they felt their country's foreign, and to some extent domestic, policy was being hijacked by a small country in sub-Saharan Africa, or Asia (or Europe for that matter). They signed up for America First.
@dang seriously? why is this not relevant?
It's about an alleged psyops campaign targeting cutting edge and rapidly evolving technology we talk about here everyday.

Seems super on point to me.

Re:Stealing Reasoning Traces from Proprietary LLM APIs on Tuesday August 11, 2026 @07:28PM (#49265897)
I didn't read the paper in details but they claim there is high overlap between the synthetic traces and the ground truth ones (not sure how they confirmed that for blackbox models though, I guess they must have compared to open source models).

They also talk about successful distillation of black box model capabilities with the approach.

Well, this about protecting the state from people that threaten it or its policies. I don't think it ever was about making us live in a safer city.

Snatched your phone? Sorry mate. But some old lady better not be walking around with a tshirt that says "I support Palestine Action".

Really cool work, you get the actual traces. Looks like the vendors can all reliably fix this one though.

A harder to defend against approach here where they work backwards from the results and ask the model to generate a plausible trace: How to Steal Reasoning Without Reasoning Traces https://arxiv.org/pdf/2603.07267
