Re:Amiga Games Released in 2024 Index on Thursday January 02, 2025 @12:08AM (#42571815)
Not a studio, this is development like it's the 90s. Though development is easier now with modern tools, but just like the 1990s it's something one person can write.

A few hundred, maybe a thousand sales.
Re:Cecconoid release trailer (2024 Amiga game) [video] on Monday June 17, 2024 @06:04AM (#40703998)
It's named in homage after the creator of Cybernoid even: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raffaele_Cecco

Re:ICQ will stop working from June 26 on Saturday May 25, 2024 @11:45AM (#40475704)
This was the 90s, so I guess reverse engineering the protocols was simple. There were even Amiga clients of it, like stricq.
Re:Stop Acting Like You're Famous on Wednesday April 17, 2024 @06:18AM (#40062612)
TFA: stop acting like you're famous

TFA (later): well, we made it to the front page of HN

This still has a chilling effect. If it happened...

...actually it has a chilling effect even if it didn't happen to be honest.

Re:Starship's Third Flight Test on Thursday March 14, 2024 @11:19AM (#39705142)
You need a second burn just to enter orbit. You burn at the top of the sub-orbital arc (opposite side of the earth) to enter orbit.
Re:Citra Nintendo 3DS/DS emulator is gone from GitHub on Monday March 04, 2024 @06:09PM (#39597401)
Yuzu repo has a few archives (mastodon link): https://pounced-on.me/@LMAOYEEN/112039467863754551

Haven't seen anything for Citra yet

Re:BBC BASIC raytracer in 432 characters on Wednesday January 17, 2024 @03:42AM (#39025013)
the gallery site is amazing in and of itself. the gallery isn't PNGs or GIFs - it's generated in the browser from the emulator state. if you hover over an item it resumes the emulator.

The hackers are the real victims here

Re:You don't need JavaScript for that on Saturday December 02, 2023 @10:06AM (#38499077)
(o ) "Do you want to receive marketing emails from our partners?"

This is absolutely a dark pattern.

Re:One of the greatest user interface disasters in history on Wednesday November 29, 2023 @07:28AM (#38458565)
Posts aren't limited to an arbitrary length in activity pub, this is the same UI logic for showing a thread in the main feed. Twitter does something similar for bluecheck long posts.
Re:Tesla Normal Operating Sounds on Saturday November 25, 2023 @06:08AM (#38412775)
And yet, no fart?
Re:BRICS gold-backed currency coming in August on Thursday July 13, 2023 @09:03AM (#36708483)
I never mentioned anything about rich or poor. Workers can't work if nobody is hiring. Businesses can't borrow, and anyone who has borrowed faces a falling real asset value with a nominal debt accruing nominal interest. (See 2007 housing market crash for a very narrow example.)
Re:BRICS gold-backed currency coming in August on Thursday July 13, 2023 @08:24AM (#36708082)
What do you think happens when the profit incentive over any length of time is to neither spend nor invest and simply hold cash? It doesn't end well for that currency or the associated economy.
Re:BRICS gold-backed currency coming in August on Thursday July 13, 2023 @08:07AM (#36707917)
And a personal investment in gold is in no way equivalent to fixing the exchange value of your currency to it. If you think gold standards prevent manipulation of currencies, well the 1920s would like to have a word with you please.

And deflation is far more destructive than inflation.

Re:Was Starship’s Stage Zero a Bad Pad? on Wednesday July 05, 2023 @07:48AM (#36599009)
I believe it was acknowledged that the lean of the rocket immediately after launch was unintentional possibly due to the damage of the pad, and later (for possibly unrelated reasons) the thrust vectoring failed completely. Given it took more than 30 seconds for the flight termination to take effect there was definitely non-zero risk there for staff or potentially even the observers a half-dozen miles away.
Re:ChatGPT: Fear Litany on Tuesday June 20, 2023 @03:32AM (#36400811)
The way Bing Chat works is by providing a full copy of the GPT response whenever a new token is generated. It gets replaced when it produces something that's a no-no. Put Edge into dev mode and you can see the sequence of JSON responses, but possibly not the word that trips the filter.

I couldn't get it to acknowledge that Queen Elizabeth II had died. Apparently the natural death of a monarch (or probably any head of state) is censored, but that means it couldn't talk about Royal succession at all. (May be fixed now.)

Re:Tomb Raider on Saturday June 03, 2023 @03:13AM (#36174421)
The first of the rebooted series is more of a gender-swapped Rick Dangerous. (Lots of deaths.)

Re:Tomb Raider on Saturday June 03, 2023 @02:49AM (#36174334)
The character is mo-capped, you can't really maintain that consistency (which tbh, which I'm not sure existed to begin with) if you want to minimise jank in the character's facial animations.
Finally someone is taking action on the rental crisis in Australia.
