Nsjail, firecracker, gVisor, or v8 isolates are all good options with different tradeoffs

If you're interested in time-lock puzzles, drand [1] achieves this but through randomness instead of computational effort.

Looks like a 404, would love to see the gist though!

I built a similar scheme for a class project, but relying on verifiable delay functions [1] to provide the time lock.

Might be something you’re interested in.

Re:TurboTax’s fight against free tax filing on Monday April 18, 2022 @03:39PM (#31075413)
The state is free if you make under a certain amount which was the case for me. I ended up just paying the $15 rather than re-entering anything.

I used FreeTaxUSA this year to file and was happy with them except for a pretty dark pattern.

If you google "FreeTaxUSA" and log-in that way, it'll change your free-file account to a paid account and there is no way to change it back. To free-file with them, you need to always log in using the special IRS link.

I thought this was pretty annoying, especially as there's no way for customer service to change it back. Their recommendation was to make a new account and re-enter all my tax info.

I was asked this questions this past fall as part of the 1st technical screen for a SWE intern. I think there was 45 minutes to do it.

After I had two more technical interviews where I got asked more traditional leetcody questions.

I've had a lot of fun doing Hydrogen line backyard astronomy. I wrote up an article on my experience [1]. These are two great sites as well [2][3].

Tell HN: Instagram Golang Easter Egg

I noticed that putting “go golang” in your bio on iOS will prompt a translation with some quotes. This works as of version 189:go golang -> “What is growing up to?”go go golang -> “What’s the point of growing up?”go go go golang -> “It’s a good thing to do”go go go go golang -> “It’s something that makes you grow”See for yourself (only tested on iOS)...

Not specifically the government, but there is a github[0] for amendments to the Constitution.

I've found slack (or other asynchronous tools) to be helpful for this. I'm able to ask a question without actively interrupting someones work. Once they get to a breaking point they can respond.
Re:Why are boys academically underperforming? [audio] on Thursday December 31, 2020 @01:23PM (#25595410)
When I was in elementary and middle school (early 2010s) his books were very popular. I remember reading Percy Jackson & the Olympians and later The Kane Chronicles and The Heroes of Olympus.

From personal experience, Rick Riordan's series had similar interest levels between girls and boys but later series (Hunger Games, House of Night, Fault in Our Stars) did skew towards girls. My reading also fell off as I got older so I'm sure I wasn't as in touch with what my peers were reading.

That doesn't really apply in this case-- for service academies student's are all on a full-scholarship and are paid a stipend.

If anything it would be cheaper to kick them out. But that is at odds with the goal (competent service-members).
