Re:Should I use a pie chart? on Friday February 09, 2024 @06:14PM (#39321686)
I wasn't aware they were controversial. I had to google to find some arguments against pie charts

Even if the phones still had a headphone jack, how good is the tiny integrated DAC that's driving it? I really doubt the difference would be perceivable
Apparently, out of a 19.08 trillion M3 USD supply [1], 2.04 trillion is in notes [2].

If this is not a walled garden of magic silicon culture, what exactly are we paying so much for?

Isn't battery where innovation is most needed?
I'm surprised this community is not more adamant about source being shared alongside a "Show HN" post. It seems like a no-brainer to include source when showing a group of software enthusiasts your non-commercial project.

Re:Teslasuit – full body haptic VR suit on Thursday January 11, 2018 @06:50PM (#16129187)
It would be unpleasant if your VR text editor shocked you, sure. Might make for a fun game mechanic though.
Re:A plan to rescue the Web from the Internet on Monday December 18, 2017 @04:54PM (#15955867)
Not sure if I am misunderstanding the problem, but are you aware you can exclude terms from the search results? For example with google "baseball cards -ebay" will omit pages where ebay is mentioned.

Seems sort of self serving that the solution is to generate more content for facebook. The next article is going to conclude disabling ad blockers and making microtransactions will finally make you happy.

I volunteer! I have a machine that turns ethanol into energy and a good time.

Re:Researchers accidentally turn carbon dioxide into ethanol on Tuesday October 18, 2016 @08:01PM (#12739823)
Even if it produces more energy than it consumes, at best it would be an inefficient hydrogen powered engine.

Although this is still pretty cool if it could capture atmospheric carbon.

I'd recommend listening to act one from This American Life ep. 556 (http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/556/s...). They interview two people captured by Kim Jong-Il to make movies. It sounded like a pretty easy life, but there's no joy in it if you can't leave.

Re:Show HN: I made a Hacker News for podcasts on Saturday April 16, 2016 @04:39PM (#11512161)
I feel the opposite. With those two shows the primary focus is telling a story. They aren't really conventional interview shows. It seems to me like a lot of the time, a narrator dubbing over the interviewee can help maintain the pace and focus of the show.
Hate to sound anti-innovation here, but wouldn't this hypersonic plane be significantly less fuel efficient than subsonic aircraft?

I'm a fan. It motivates me to stay active with open source even when my work does not directly involve open source coding.
Very cool! I guess I'll be remapping /dev/null this April 1st.
