I see, yeah that works when I know I'll be in a situation for a while where I may want the option to say something or going over something like verbal brainstorming but I find I am much more often having a random thought and want to capture it right away without pulling out my phone or interrupting what I'm doing.

Can only hope google relaxes their limitations on choice of ai assistant. In the meantime I'm setting up a raspi with openwakeword to just act as an interface for voice to voice interactions for while I'm home.

Curious how you talk to Claude? I have some automations set up but I feel locked into Gemini on android if I want to be able to use a wakeword (e.g. while driving). I use Claude for non-voice but haven't found a convenient way to start up a chat with Claude.
He is a humanist, how could relying on humans possibly go against his beliefs?
It sounds like you're under the impression it's meant to be a real product rather than a joke
Have you considered merging efforts with Where Is Public Toilet? Service has existed for many years and seems to have a decent amount of locations in Winnipeg
There is already an app for this, called Where Is Public Toilet that covers most of north America and parts of Europe
Re:Amsterdam to use “noise cameras” against too loud cars on Saturday August 19, 2023 @01:36PM (#37191127)
So don't make the modifications at all if it's going to make it a nuisance?
Re:Airport scraps 100ml liquid rule with new scanners on Tuesday April 04, 2023 @09:44AM (#35439474)
There are non-liquid chemical attacks that could be facilitated from something like anthrax to powdered pepper spray. Disallowing liquids does nothing to stop those
Being told you're gifted often isn't a self fulfilling prophecy, and can easily lead to failure or giving up when being gifted isn't working.
Not only that, they dynamically change the poster to try to make it more appealing to each person and it still fails miserably.

Doesn't seem to work well in Firefox, the effect is very different from the sample images and the text is borderline unreadable

I agree the style itself isn't very good but I think the "lesson" was in differentiating primary and secondary actions to make it obvious
Re:Show HN: Rethinking Tabs in Firefox on Tuesday November 15, 2022 @08:49AM (#33609098)
I guess I'm missing the point because it seems to me like almost all of this can be accomplished in native Firefox. If I want to search my open tabs I just type a % in the address bar with my query and it searches my tabs. If I want to search for a bookmark (which doesn't seem meaningfully different from a star) I use a * instead of %. ^ is for history. For recently visited tabs I can ctrl+tab. Clean is basically close all except pinned but it also includes the tab playing audio.
> The fact that there isn't even a proper translation of the word in English, though, just proves that native English speakers aren't as aware of it as Japanese speakers

The article seems to make a pretty big point about this being a foreign concept that is difficult to articulate, but in English linguistics we call it "backchanneling". Obviously it won't be a perfect one-to-one translation but it's the same as what is described in the opening.

I don't think it's all about blame, knowing it came from a lab would also pull into question the practice of engineering viruses and the safety and security standards required.

Is the book you're thinking of maybe The Body Keeps the Score?
Re:I've locked myself out of my digital life on Tuesday June 07, 2022 @08:19AM (#31653087)
The article ends with "In the meantime, please rest assured that my home is still standing." So presumably it's all hypothetical.
I don't think that excluding sections from a speed run is a thing; the whole setup for speedrunning means splits and total time passed, not manually adding up splits ignoring some, or pausing timer at any point.

Also, this could open up room for exploitation, such as intentionally failing for a long period of time to make a certain amount of time pass in game to get to some desired state, while not being counted in total time.
