go terps
ha. computers can't do triplets apparently.
I never got into vim plugins that work well with my typical dev setup... so I am constantly closing and opening files deep in an hierarchy ie. :spl app/to/stupid/file.foo... It take a second to do -- but I do it _all_ the time. I bet it adds up to be a lot.
DOD comment: took the words right out of my fingertips...
this site needs an api... although... hmm... it probably just would be middle-man for the api it pulls from... but all the same.. this site needs an api...

BE SO GOOD THEY CANT IGNORE YOU
Re:Ask HN: How did you quit procrastinating? on Saturday May 08, 2010 @07:58AM (#1330018)
This great book about time management by Lakein, suggests sitting in a chair and do _nothing_ ... no activity, no fidgeting... just sit there. After a several minutes, it's so unbearable, that you get inspired to go and tackle that task.

Pretty cool trick...

Re:Ask HN: How do you prepare mentally? on Saturday May 08, 2010 @07:54AM (#1330015)
i am a professional classical violinist and I second the comment about rest. In all my years preparing for competitions and concerts, resting a lot the day of, and napping before the big event works the best.
Re:Elegant visual way to multiply numbers by hand on Friday April 30, 2010 @01:24PM (#1308776)
how does one work this out if there is a zero in one or in both numbers... I played around with this on a napkin at a bar and couldn't figure it out...
Re:What's a great relationship book/guide on Thursday April 29, 2010 @10:14AM (#1304443)
thanks for the recommendations, HN. I actually agree that 'talking' is key, but my relationship get's stuck when talking doesn't prove to be enough ;)

What's a great relationship book/guide

I have been very pleased with HN community in book recommendations. I got some great tips on personal finance, time management etc. Can HN suggest an incredible book for relationships? (specifically for marriage and such).

that's an opinion. So lawyers are mathematicians?
Re:Being Funny: How Steve Martin got his act together on Saturday March 27, 2010 @08:27AM (#1222897)
I actually have had this steve-martin-ism floating around in my head for more than a couple of years now.. that is truly inspiring (not sure if he ripped it off from another). It's related to show-biz, but I apply it to my classical music ambitions and now my entrepreneurial projects, too: "Be so good, that they _can't_ ignore you." It's quite a zen thing, actually, and it dissolves perhaps some of the complexity of breaking through to the other side with one thing to keep in mind.
im of the mind that programming resides in the logic field, and not mathematics. i am a decent dev with practically no formal math background, and I get around pretty well.
Re:Please teach kids programming, Mr. President (2009) on Thursday January 14, 2010 @12:32AM (#1052002)
what a horrible idea... top-down initiatives to turn young kids onto being over-smart and underpaid.
I was very much inspired with what Rusy K. had put together, and I feel it was a good choice now that I went with nitrogen. Haskell has turbinado, too :)
Re:Poll: Hackers, do you play any musical instruments? on Monday January 11, 2010 @04:00PM (#1045988)

I am using the erlang nitrogen framework and am overjoyed at how fun it is. Give it a try!
