Re:A Knockout Blow for LLMs? on Sunday June 08, 2025 @04:14AM (#44215509)
All the papers I’ve seen show models have limits. This is just an attention grab by lazy “researchers” cashing in on their Apple credentials.
Re:A Knockout Blow for LLMs? on Sunday June 08, 2025 @04:12AM (#44215496)
They cite https://arxiv.org/abs/2503.23829 which is interesting though. If you have lots of tokens to burn, just try the task lots of times. Can find better solutions than reasoning would on its first try. Only tested on small models though.
Re:A Knockout Blow for LLMs? on Sunday June 08, 2025 @04:08AM (#44215487)
The paper shows reasoning is better than no reasoning, reasoning needs more tokens to work for simple tasks, and that models get confused when things get too complicated. Nothing interesting, on the level of what an undergrad would write for a side project. If it wasn’t “from apple” no one would be mentioning it.

The Switzerland availability sounds useful. Insane prices over there usually.
When ppl noticed they raise prices, they swapped to shrinkflation.

When ppl notice inflation, they swap to enshitification.

When ppl notice enshitification, they will create new brands at higher price points.

And so the cycle continues.

currently using a bunch of helper files for this... but this does sound like the sensible next step!
Re:Ask HN: Batch Processing with OpenAI on Tuesday August 15, 2023 @05:53PM (#37139753)
I did!

But... the async code seems to cause a lot of dead connections, which seem to prevent any new ones.

Ask HN: Batch Processing with OpenAI

So I have 10,000 paragraphs I want to individually process with a prompt.Any packages that would handle running things async, doing retries, handling the occasional hung connection, and logging performance?Tried helicone, but I don't think it handles the hung connections.Just doing it manually for now, but there must be an existing solution?

Re:Interesting Language Learning Apps? on Sunday August 13, 2023 @05:40PM (#37114816)
I've been looking into language learning apps, and I think I've found most of the big ones.

But the small fun ones are what I want to try out.

Any you guys would recommend?

Sounds really useful!

It seems like this is cheaper than a full transcript. Is it because it skips stuff like diarization and aligning time stamps?

Ah, good point!

Any idea how far in advance co-living spaces need to be booked? Like, is it a on-the-day type of deal, or usually a week or so?

Do they do credit checks or references or anything like that?

Finally a chance to experience Craigslist!

Will defo reach out when I have the basic plan set.

How different is staying in Palo Alto vs SF? And how long does it take getting between the two?

I've heard oakland is a bit more rough than SF. Which are the bits to avoid?

How expensive is the public transport? If I'm going back and forth every day, feels like it could quickly add up?

Ask HN: Visiting SF on a Budget?

I want to do a trip to SF to sightsee and network. But I want to keep costs down.Hotel / AirBnB are the easiest options, but what about co-living spaces and hacker houses?Ideally want to network with people working on llms / ml ops, so the community of a hacker house is appealing. But never stayed in one before, so not sure what to expect!Any help would be appreciated.
