To some degree, me too. I didn't want to interfere so I let it do its thing.

My guess is that the majority of dealerships aren't tech inclined to notice things like em dashes, and still have some sort of duty to entertain deals/emails

Fun while it lasted. I foresee a lot of cops pulling over Teslas in the carpool lane because they didn't realize the program is over
Re:SpaceX's Starlink Is Now Beaming Wi-Fi to 1k Planes on Thursday July 10, 2025 @05:48PM (#44525999)
I've had almost exactly the opposite experience. Never had a consistent connection with Panasonic or GoGo, but on my Starlink flight I was streaming live videos without a single hiccup.
Awesome, looks like it was personally worth it. I'm curious if it was also financially worth it?
Walmart+? But I'm not sure how much better they treat their employees
I would love to see a "Politicians" section which copies their investments

Also Polar.sh and Creem.io
Looks like I'm flying exclusively United when I can in 2025

Cheaper to just buy apple care
Re:Set Up a $4/Mo Hetzner VM to Skip the Serverless Tax on Sunday September 01, 2024 @02:19PM (#41419011)
I use it, `time=39.741 ms` when I `ping` my Oregon server from LA
Another benefit is that debugging secret changes is a lot easier. We've had a couple of cases where someone changes the secret in a vault and that causes problems and no one can tell what changed between two deploys
Google Cloud Run also has PR previews

Fly.io has a GitHub action to make it pretty easy

Not at all, BIFL applies to everything, here's a dishwasher: https://www.costperuse.com/@kepano/purchases/14779fe8-03ea-4...

Would the site be more useful if it had a "product page" where it showed how many users have bought the product, avg life expectancy, etc + the repair guides and reviews?

Obviously I can't build this without users, but I think this is a good idea if that's what you're suggesting

Good callout, I actually do have a field for purchase link. I've added them to my posts
Sorry about that! I was getting some really bad cold starts on vercel (>1s) so I moved to fly.io, and my auth provider needed some additional configuration for docker based deployments that I missed
True! Although I'd say there's usually a correlation between price and durability/quality

Here's an example of something cheap that's lasted me a long time: https://www.costperuse.com/@nahtnam/purchases/0018ace2-af37-... (I don't think they designed it to be durable, it just happened to be)

Thanks for the feedback, I'll working on improving the landing page! You're totally right though, it lacks explanations and examples

To answer your question here, BIFL (in my experience) means paying extra for a premium quality item that will last significantly longer than the cheaper alternative. However, in some cases, it's worth buying the cheaper item if you don't use it enough.

The ZSA Moonlander example is a product I spent the extra $$$ on, and in the end it was totally worth it given how many hours I've spent using the keyboard. I built the site to put into perspective what the value of the keyboard is. Would I spend ~$0.04 an hour to rent this keyboard? Definitely yes

Show HN: I built a site to track your buy it for life items

https://www.costperuse.com

Hey HN,I've been on a mission to buy higher quality, sustainable products, especially when replacing things I use frequently. To better understand the value of these items, I built a site to track how often I use them. Here is my list so far: https://www.costperuse.com/@nahtnamFeel free to sign up and share the items that have served you well! https://www.costperuse.com/You can also generate a...

Have you tried https://tally.so? Load the embed after the user clicks a button and that should solve your SEO problem
Been using the betas for my side projects and I’m loving it. So much easier to read, write, and test compared to RLS with postgres/supabase

Seems like people are getting the release notes from somewhere else (presumably from in app). Could someone share it here?

Can you import from Robinhood/Apex/etc yet?
Re:Ask HN: What apps have you created for your own use? on Wednesday December 13, 2023 @03:54AM (#38624492)
I've built a chrome extension that replaces your new tab page with news feeds (among other things). That's how I stay up to date with HackerNews (including this post) :)

Do you use any tools like Linear, Notion, and/or Github Projects to keep track and organize new features?
Re:Kinesis Advantage 360 on Friday December 17, 2021 @02:26PM (#29597162)
I've had both. I find that the moonlander is a LOT smaller, and feels a bit better because the wrist-rests are integrated (that was probably my biggest annoyance with the EZ). I was able to sell my EZ for about 250, so the moonlander realistically cost me about 150. The moonlander is about 25% better than the EZ (note: there are a few keys missing) and overall I'm happy with my upgrade
Re:From Node to Ruby on Rails on Thursday December 16, 2021 @01:36PM (#29581962)
I fully agree with this post but it's missing one important (to me) factor. With TypeScript I can reduce the number of tests I have to write and I can be significantly more confident when writing code solo. So I'm more than happy to spend 2 weeks (more like a day) to set up the boilerplate.

Is this really worth $400 + $50-$100 for a pen? Why not just get an iPad instead?
Re:Prisma – ORM for Node.js and TypeScript on Wednesday April 21, 2021 @02:47PM (#26893845)
I wonder if its possible to start a transaction at the beginning of each test and then rollback. That way we just need a db to run but it will never really be written to.

Or maybe just invest in this: https://github.com/oguimbal/pg-mem/issues/27 He has already put a lot of effort into it and I think with just a bit more support he can support Prisma

How do you lower the acoustics and enable power saving? I have WD Reds and they are super loud and annoying
