Re:WebSocket Relay: P2P style communication without WebRTC on Saturday January 03, 2026 @04:33PM (#46481833)
I finally published my first Docker image in Docker Hub! And it took a lot of prep, including updating documentation in the GitHub repo and ensuring everything works great.

WebSocket Relay Server facilitates P2P-style communication between different browser users, without any WebRTC faff. It acts as an intermediatory relaying messages between users and can support scenarios such as online chat or multiplayer gaming.

Some example applications:

1. PlayGrid (https://home.nick-hill.com/games/playgrid/) uses WSRelay Server. Try opening multiple tabs to see it in action!

2. For a very basic HTML-only demo, go here (https://home.nick-hill.com/static/wsrelay-demo.html) to explore a basic messaging application.

In response to Postman's new policy of "create an account and upload all your secrets to our servers or get lost", I've taken the totally reasonable approach of making my own version of Postman from the ground up!
WSRelay is a relay server that simply passes messages from one web browser user to another, or a group of users, based on whatever protocol you wish to invent.

There is also a reference implementation of the client: https://github.com/nick-hill-dev/wsrelay-client

Back in 1999 I studied A-Levels at College and as part of my newfound enthusiasm for Turbo Pascal I went about implementing a game based on an Amstrad CPC classic of the same name.

It turned out to be quite popular amongst my classmates at the time. I remember it being copied to different floppy disks so everyone could play it at home and amongst the different PCs at the college.

This repository is a preservation of the original source code with tooling integrated that can be used to build .jsdoc packages to enable playing in a browser window.

The Intuitive Compiler TypeScript library is a compact string tokenizer that makes it easy to define your own custom LR(1) programming language!

State machines can be built using simple code that is easy to read and write, yet powerful enough to convert a string of that language into tokens for further processing.

No, they would not. Everyone knows it's an eastern religion originating from the Middle East. Next you'll be saying Christians have not been told Jesus was not white! Like, that's also something that all Christians know.
