This is awesome, why did I just learn about this! Gonna add these all over my homelab
I don't necessarily disagree with this post but I really disagree with how it is written and with the contempt it expresses towards a fellow tech guy.
First of all - after reading all that, I still don't fully know what the author exactly means by "software factory". Please define the term if you are to argue about it so we know exactly what you're talking about.
Second of all - the author is glorifying one approach to tech (the "idea guys") and severely downplaying other approaches. Just because he finds this fun and entertaining doesn't mean everyone does - and the world needs all of those people. Idea guys are cool and they just got a very powerful tool, but we still need those passionate devs who dedicate a lot of their time to building and researching massive projects even if they're not sure they make sense
Sorry but this is such a manager thing to say. "Everything is replaceble by AI except what I do! - make decisions"
I don't find that true at all. We even have an LLM specialized in exactly that - making decisions
What I would agree on that LLMs maybe possibly will not replace us at that soon is "noodling" - just letting your thoughts wander around an idea, trying to come up with some cool and unique. Someone will probably run a bunch of agents soon and prove me wrong on this though
Are you using the API or is it self hosted as well?
(sorry if this question doesn't make sense)
Generate and dump on others to verify is how the generative-AI people operate. Be it in maths or just your regular job.
The amount of Confluence pages of "research" that is just a dump of LLM output someone passed to me to review is staggering
I hate this approach, it's unbelievably selfish
That's the way to go. Anyone who publishes any of their work in the open web and who values what they are doing should do whatever possible to block the AI scrapers (which is often difficult or impossible, I know) until all that's left for them to feed on is their own garbage.
Let the garbage-spewing machines choke on their own garbage
Allowing someone to create my persona which they control sounds like a fever nightmare to me. I'm not touching this with a stick until I can host it - and control it - myself
Yeah it kinda feels like a great, original meal but served on plasticware
People don't like reading articles "redacted" by AI because that feels disrespectful
Imagine approaching someone you wanna talk to and they just silently point to their assistant, suggesting you talk to them instead. I want to hear your thoughts from you, not filtered by some assistant/machine
This intrigued me a lot! I have been searching for a way to break out of the social silos, but all the other alternatives just weren't doing it for me. They usually chased thr nostalgia of the 90s for nostalgia's sake, but apart from making me nostalgic for 10 minutes I haven't found much use of them.
This seems different. It embraces the modern web and tries to fit in, while still giving the creator full control over their yard.
I might be overly optimistic, but I'm excited for this! I will try to make my myzopotamia.dev blog join the IndieWeb as soon as I find some time
I'm pretty new to this so I can't speak for IndieWeb, but I wouldn't blame them. People who seek independence from the social silos are usually engineers or other web-aware people. It is only natural that they want to solve the problem with the knowledge they possess and tools they know - and I think it's fine. If you look back at how internet evolved, it was always like this - the geeks and nerds coming up with something fun but naturally hard to get into for the regular folk. But then it would get more and more approachable until it adopted for the said regular folk.
I think the IndieWeb is at this early stage. The adoption for a broader audience will come naturally (if this survives), but for now - let them cook
This looks great, I'll join as soon as I'm on my personal laptop
How do you run 35B on a gaming PC?
I'm trying to go the same route, but I have a 5070Ti with only 16GB VRAM (I bought it for gaming) and I'm not sure how to run anything decent on it. I have 64 GB RAM if that matters
Wasn't there some scientific paper recently that proved that every operation can be represented as a logarithm? Like, the same as every logic gate can be derived from NAND gates
Any tips on which model to use and how to use them? I have 64 RAM and 16 VRAM (I know it's not a lot, it's a gaming GPU) and I'm trying to find a good model to use but it's a bit of a struggle
My first son will be born in 2 months and I must say, between stories like this and others that I learned in antenatal classes - I have never been more terrified in my life
Thank you, that's good to know when I try to move this to a Compute Shader and try to make it part of a game in the future
Yes, this should be relatively easy to extend to 3D. Performance might pose some issues so I advise to stick to a small grid, or look for optimizations like decreasing the amount of Gauss-Seidel loops etc. Moving this into a C++ library would also probably help a lot
Thanks, I didn't know it was available there - I'll update my blog and add the link as soon as I'm off work
Even if the rude prompts are more effective, I just can't get myself to be rude in this context. Maybe it's weird but I'd rather give up that 4% accuracy increase than roleplay a dickhead
For now. The prices for using those will increase massively at some point
Yeah it seems I missed that, adding the rocket at the end was a cherry on the top and I was so exhausted already I'm surprised it even works lol
So once upon a time I stumbled upon simulating fluids in gamedev and I really wanted to learn how it works. Fast forward 2 months and I decided to write down everything I learned to hopefully make it easier for others in the future!

I don't want to be a hater, but exposing access to your homelab through a "fully vibe coded" application (it's mentioned at the bottom of the README) is probably not a good idea.
The idea itself sounds fun though
We should start a movement among personal-blog people, where each personal website is encouraged to attach 1 to 5 (to not overwhelm) link to other personal websites they find interesting.
That way, if the chain is solid enough, we can bring back the notion of "surfing the internet"

Hi everyone! I recently did a small project for myself where I joined together my home network and home network at my parents house where I spend a lot of time. I basically wanted the devices in both networks to be able to talk to each other as if they were in a single network.
I am in no way a specialist when it comes to networking, so please let me know if there is something I missed here or could do better
